Tonight’s AEW Dynamite arrives at an important point on the road to All In London with eight advertised matches, two championship defenses and several stories that need real movement.
Will Ospreay will face former United Empire partner Mark Davis in a Mexico City Street Fight less than four weeks before challenging Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship.
Hangman Adam Page will return to the ring alongside Brodido against AEW World Trios Champions the Demand, while Kyle Fletcher defends the International Championship against “Speedball” Mike Bailey.
Willow Nightingale and Mercedes Moné will also share the ring before their Women’s World Championship match at Wembley. Cage and Cope must temporarily team with the Young Bucks, and three wrestlers will fight for the first guaranteed entry in the men’s Casino Gauntlet.
The card is strong enough on paper. That is rarely AEW’s problem.
The question is whether tonight’s results will push the company closer to All In or become another collection of impressive matches that changes very little.

Will Ospreay Battles Mark Davis in a Mexico City Street Fight
Will Ospreay facing Mark Davis is the most important match on tonight’s card.
Ospreay officially left the Death Riders last week, but walking away from Jon Moxley did not erase his hesitation before saving Kenny Omega at Redemption.
Omega saw Ospreay pause while the Death Riders attacked him and questioned whether his supposed friend briefly considered allowing them to finish the job. A weakened Omega would give Ospreay an easier path to the AEW World Championship at All In.
Ospreay insists he wants the best version of Omega at Wembley.
Omega does not completely believe him, and he has no reason to.
Ospreay joined the people trying to destroy him and only rejected their methods once the situation became impossible to defend. Omega also disappeared when Ospreay was injured, isolated and losing confidence.
Both men feel betrayed. Neither has fully accepted his responsibility for their relationship falling apart.
Davis represents another part of Ospreay’s past. He knew Ospreay before the Death Riders, the world-title opportunity and the growing obsession with proving himself to Omega.
Outside interference is prohibited, removing the Don Callis Family and forcing both men to settle the issue themselves.
Ospreay needs to show that his hesitation is gone. He does not need to destroy his body before the biggest match of his AEW career to prove it.
There is a difference between conviction and recklessness. Tonight should reveal whether Ospreay understands it.
The Demand Defends Against Hangman Adam Page and Brodido
Hangman Adam Page will wrestle his first match since returning when he joins Brody King and Bandido against Ricochet, Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona.
The Demand recently captured the World Trios Championship after receiving assistance from the Lethal Twist. Hangman and Brody became involved in the post-match fight before Page offered to join Brodido in challenging for the titles.
The partnership is unusual, but it works.
Bandido provides speed and creativity. Brody brings overwhelming power. Hangman gives the challengers the emotional intensity and star presence needed to make the Trios Championship feel important.
Page also needs a real direction after making it clear that another immediate AEW World Championship chase is not his priority.
The Trios Championship gives him meaningful stakes without forcing him back into the same title picture. AEW now needs to prove this partnership is more than a convenient excuse to place Hangman on the Grand Slam Mexico card.
The Demand cannot become background characters in his return.
Ricochet, Kaun and Liona only recently won the championships. Losing them immediately would make the title change feel temporary and expose the lack of planning behind the division.
Tonight should establish whether the Demand are legitimate champions or another faction whose presentation is stronger than its accomplishments.
Kyle Fletcher Defends Against “Speedball” Mike Bailey
Kyle Fletcher will defend the AEW International Championship against “Speedball” Mike Bailey.
Bailey earned the opportunity at Redemption, selected Grand Slam Mexico as the location and questioned whether Fletcher can prove he is truly elite while remaining dependent on Don Callis.
Fletcher agreed to keep the Don Callis Family away from ringside before attacking Bailey.
That reaction exposed the insecurity beneath his confidence.
Fletcher wants to be treated like one of AEW’s top champions, but the protection surrounding him continues creating doubt over whether the championship belongs to Fletcher or the entire Don Callis Family.
Tonight gives him an opportunity to answer that criticism.
Another interference-heavy finish would make the story pointless. Fletcher needs a decisive performance, while Bailey needs more than another impressive loss followed by praise about how competitive he looked.
Both men have something to prove. That gives the match more substance than another athletic showcase with no meaningful follow-up.
Willow Nightingale and Mercedes Moné Share the Ring
AEW Women’s World Champion Willow Nightingale will team with the Brawling Birds against Mercedes Moné and Women’s World Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion.
Willow and Mercedes finally made their All In rivalry personal last week.
Mercedes believes Willow’s biggest moments have repeatedly come at her expense. Willow was standing across from Mercedes when Moné suffered the injury that stopped her career, later ended her lengthy TBS Championship reign and now holds the Women’s World Championship Mercedes wants.
Willow represents something Mercedes cannot manufacture: a natural connection with the audience that developed over time.
Mercedes has collected championships and built her identity around being the center of every women’s division she enters. Willow has repeatedly become the emotional center of their story without needing Mercedes’ approval.
That is why the rivalry works.
The match also continues Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor’s pursuit of Divine Dominion’s tag-team championship.
Both programs need progression tonight. Another crowded post-match attack followed by a predictable save would leave everyone in the same position.
Cage and Cope Must Team With the Young Bucks
AEW World Tag Team Champions Cage and Cope will team with their All In challengers, the Young Bucks, against Jon Moxley, PAC, Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia.
The obvious story is whether the champions and challengers can coexist.
AEW needs to go deeper than reluctant tags, accidental collisions and another predictable argument.
Both teams believe defeating the other at Wembley will define their legacies.
The Young Bucks want another championship reign to strengthen their claim as the greatest tag team in AEW history. Cage and Cope reunited to prove they can still defeat the best teams from another generation.
They do not need to trust each other tonight.
They only need to understand that losing control against the Death Riders could weaken both sides before All In.
Moxley also enters after the announcement of the Continental Challenge Cup, where one loss can end his championship reign. His control over the Death Riders has already weakened following Ospreay’s departure.
Tonight should show whether the group is becoming more focused or simply more desperate.
Andrade, Tommaso Ciampa and Komander Fight for the First Casino Gauntlet Entry
AEW National Champion Andrade El Ídolo, Tommaso Ciampa and Komander will compete for the No. 1 entry in the men’s Casino Gauntlet at All In London.
The winner receives the first guaranteed position in the match.
That is an advantage because later entrants may never be called before the Gauntlet ends. Starting first also means surviving longer than everyone who follows, so the position is valuable without guaranteeing success.
Andrade wants to move closer to another world-title opportunity while holding the National Championship.
Ciampa needs momentum after losing to Chris Jericho at Redemption.
Komander needs to turn strong performances into something more meaningful than another respectable defeat.
The opportunity already gives the match enough importance. It does not need outside interference or another post-match attack.
Místico Leads a Major Arena México Trios Match
Místico will team with Chris Jericho and Darby Allin against Kazuchika Okada, TNT Champion Kevin Knight and Hechicero of the Don Callis Family.
This is primarily an international attraction, and AEW should not pretend otherwise.
Místico belongs in a major match inside Arena México. Okada gives the opposing side another legitimate international star, while Darby, Jericho, Knight and Hechicero bring completely different styles.
A showcase can work in this setting.
The concern is whether anything comes from it afterward.
Several wrestlers in the match still need clear All In directions. A lineup this strong should not become meaningless once the final bell rings.
Kris Statlander Faces Persephone
Kris Statlander will face CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone.
Their issue began when Statlander became involved in Persephone’s unsuccessful TBS Championship match against Maya World.
Persephone believes Statlander cost her the championship. Statlander believed she was preventing Persephone from gaining an unfair advantage.
That is enough.
Not every match needs an overcomplicated backstory. It only needs a result that creates movement instead of leaving both women exactly where they started.
The Continental Challenge Cup Changes the Road to All In London
Monday’s Continental Challenge Cup Selection Special revealed all 16 participants and the complete opening-round draw.

The Challenge Cup is a single-elimination tournament rather than another version of the round-robin Continental Classic.
The eight first-round winners will return to a blind-draw pool for the quarterfinals. The semifinals will take place on the August 26 Dynamite from Glasgow, while the final will be held at All In London.
The winner receives the Continental Challenge Cup and leaves Wembley as AEW Continental Champion.
Jon Moxley is not waiting at the end for a challenger. His championship is at risk from the opening round, meaning one loss can immediately end his reign.
Continental rules will also prohibit outside interference.
The complete field includes Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Eddie Kingston, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong, Nigel McGuinness, Katsuyori Shibata, Jay White, David Finlay, Ace Austin, Jungle Jack Perry, Matt Sydal, Jake Doyle, Brian Cage and Hechicero.

Jay White against David Finlay carries the strongest personal history. O’Reilly against Strong forces partners to eliminate one another. Nigel’s road toward a possible Wembley final begins against one of the tournament’s most physically unforgiving opponents.
The tournament gives Dynamite and Collision something AEW television needed on the road to All In: weekly matches with actual consequences.
What Else Should Develop on the Road to AEW All In London?
AEW has several major matches established for Wembley. The problem is that some still need stronger week-to-week progression.
Omega and Ospreay have the most compelling issue because neither man is completely right or wrong. Tonight’s Street Fight needs to move that story forward without forcing another Omega appearance simply because AEW wants a closing confrontation.
Willow and Mercedes already have enough history. Their rivalry needs escalation without repeating last week’s attack.
Cage and Cope against the Young Bucks needs competitive tension, not another tired coexistence angle.
Hangman also needs a direction that lasts beyond tonight. Returning, receiving a Trios Championship match and disappearing from the division afterward would make the entire partnership feel temporary.
The road to All In needs consequences, not just possibilities.
Final Thoughts
Tonight’s AEW Dynamite has enough talent to become one of the company’s strongest television shows of the year.
Match quality is not the question.
The question is whether anything meaningful will change.
Ospreay’s Street Fight must reveal whether he is genuinely ready for Omega. Hangman’s return needs to begin a real direction. Fletcher must prove his championship reign belongs to him. Willow and Mercedes need to make their All In rivalry more intense without repeating what already happened.
AEW also needs discipline.
Eight matches can easily become a rushed show where important developments happen before the previous moment has time to register.
Grand Slam Mexico should not be remembered only as a stacked card with a great crowd. It needs winners who move forward, losers who adjust and All In programs that become clearer before Wembley.
The card creates possibilities.
Tonight needs to create direction.
