Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano are reuniting in TNA with championship gold immediately in reach. Baszler was revealed as Serrano’s partner on last night’s October 8 episode of TNA iMPACT!, setting up a challenge against Allie and Kiera Hogan for the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship at Bound For Glory on Sunday, October 11. Fightful’s Andrew Thompson covered the announcement after the reveal. It gives TNA a recognizable addition to its biggest show of the year and puts Serrano in a match with considerably more attention surrounding it.
The pairing makes sense. They have worked together, their wrestling styles offer a clear foundation for a team, and Baszler brings experience that should make the champions take the challenge seriously. TNA has a straightforward reason to book this match.
The harder part is giving it a future.
Their WWE partnership already showed that putting capable wrestlers together does not automatically establish a compelling act. Serrano has also spent the beginning of her TNA run talking about finding her own direction. Reuniting her with Baszler creates an opportunity, but it puts those promises under scrutiny immediately.
Three things will determine whether this becomes a meaningful step forward: the identities TNA gives the challengers, the treatment of the reigning champions, and the direction that follows Bound For Glory. A familiar partnership can get people to pay attention. Keeping that attention requires something to change once the bell rings.
How TNA set up Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano
The announcement grew out of a confrontation between Serrano and the champions. Allie and Kiera Hogan crossed paths with her backstage before their match against Ki Vibez and Alex Gracia. The exchange escalated, and the champions subsequently won their match and challenged Serrano to find a partner for Bound For Glory.
Serrano later made a phone call. Baszler was revealed as the person agreeing to join her, giving the championship match its second team. The sequence established an immediate dispute between the champions and Serrano before supplying the surprise partner.
TNA also confirmed the pairing and title challenge through its official X account. This is an announced championship match, with Allie and Kiera Hogan entering as the titleholders.
That distinction matters when assessing the speed of the booking. The champions issued the challenge themselves. TNA gave the match a reason to happen within the story, even though Baszler’s involvement arrived on the final episode before the event.
The short turnaround does limit the build. The show established who will fight and what they will fight for. It leaves much of the relationship between these four women to be developed in the match and afterward.
That is workable for an introduction. It becomes a problem if the introduction is the most complete part of the entire program.
Their partnership began before Pure Fusion Collective
Reducing Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano to former Pure Fusion Collective members misses how their partnership began.
On the September 4, 2023 episode of WWE Raw, Baszler defeated Serrano, then performing as Zoey Stark, shortly after Stark’s split from Trish Stratus. Baszler caught her in the Kirifuda Clutch, and the post-match exchange suggested an alliance developing from their physical encounter. WWE’s own recap presented the match as the beginning of a possible partnership.
That origin gave the pairing something useful: respect established through wrestling. Baszler had experienced how difficult her opponent was to finish. Stark had experienced Baszler’s submission threat. They had a reason to recognize what the other could offer.
Two weeks later, they were teaming against Chelsea Green and Piper Niven when Nia Jax interrupted and attacked the wrestlers involved. Their early partnership therefore existed well before the Pure Fusion Collective presentation.
TNA can draw from that history without rebuilding the faction around it. Two wrestlers choosing someone whose toughness they understand is a more useful starting point than expecting an old group name to do all the explaining.
Their recent history also needs to be stated correctly. This is a TNA reunion, but it is not their first time teaming since WWE. They defeated Kanji and Myla Grace at RevPro’s Live In Coventry event on July 26, 2026.
That result gives the current pairing a foundation outside WWE. They have already worked together in this phase of their careers. TNA is introducing their partnership to its own audience, with its own championships at stake.
The promotion should use that familiarity to make their teamwork convincing from the start. There is little reason to present them as strangers learning how to tag together.
Their WWE results explain the concern
The criticism of their WWE run needs to be specific. They had victories and championship opportunities. Describing them as an act that never accomplished anything would flatten the record.
On June 10, 2024, Baszler and Stark defeated Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn on Raw, with Baszler submitting Fyre. That was a meaningful win over another team heading into the same championship match.
Five days later, at Clash at the Castle, Fyre and Dawn won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in the three-team match involving Baszler and Stark and defending champions Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. Baszler took the deciding fall. The television win had given their challenge credibility, but the championship breakthrough went elsewhere.
Pure Fusion Collective later put Baszler, Stark and Sonya Deville together. One particularly revealing result came on September 9, 2024, when Natalya, Lyra Valkyria and Zelina Vega defeated the trio. Natalya submitted Stark while her partners held Deville and Baszler in submissions.
That visual did more to establish the opposing team’s superiority than the faction’s danger. For an act built around physical intimidation, all three members being caught in submissions undercut the presentation in a way another threatening promo could not repair.
These results do not prove that every part of the WWE partnership failed. They do explain why simply putting the same wrestlers together again is an incomplete answer.
My concern is the gap between the threat an act advertises and the importance its matches establish. Baszler and Serrano can be introduced as dangerous. The audience will eventually judge them by who they beat, how they compete and whether their decisions change the division around them.
TNA has the chance to give the partnership a stronger progression. That requires more than pointing out that WWE could have done more.
1. Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano need identities beyond their old faction
Serrano’s own comments make this the most immediate creative issue.
In an interview with Rewind Recap Relive, reported in September, she rejected the idea of a Pure Fusion Collective reunion in TNA. She discussed wanting to develop her singles career and pointed to Daria Rae’s non-wrestling role and Baszler pursuing her own work. Her answer included: “No PFC. It’s not happening.”
Those remarks should not be twisted into an accusation that Serrano misled anyone. Agreeing to one championship match with a former partner is different from announcing the return of a three-person faction. Plans can also change.
They do, however, give the audience a reasonable expectation. Serrano arrived wanting room to establish herself. TNA now needs to show how teaming with Baszler fits that ambition.
There is an easy explanation available within the story. The champions challenged Serrano to find a partner. She selected someone she trusts to help her win. That can reflect confidence and judgment, with Serrano actively choosing how to answer a challenge.
It would become less convincing if her individual direction disappeared as soon as Baszler arrived. Serrano should still have goals, disagreements and relationships that belong to her. A partner can support her development while leaving space for her to pursue singles opportunities.
The same applies to Baszler. Her role needs to extend beyond being the familiar person who answered the phone. Viewers should understand what she wants from this opportunity and what makes working with Serrano valuable to her.
A shared entrance and matching gear could help the presentation. Their motives will do more to distinguish them. They can want the same championship while approaching wrestling differently, and those differences can give their interactions substance without requiring an immediate breakup.
Baszler’s credibility needs to affect the match
Baszler arrives with a substantial wrestling background. She is a two-time NXT Women’s Champion, and her presentation has long drawn from her experience in MMA and catch wrestling. WWE’s profile identifies the Kirifuda Clutch as her signature submission and details her training under Josh Barnett and Billy Robinson.
That history gives TNA a clear way to introduce her to viewers who know the name but have not followed every stage of her career.
Her best contribution to this match would be making the champions adjust. An opponent trapped in a hold should need an escape. A limb being worked over should affect the next exchange. Her partner should be able to take advantage of the openings she creates.
That would give the submission background a visible purpose. Commentary can explain her credentials, but the wrestling has to show why those credentials matter against the current champions.
There is no need to book Baszler as incapable of losing. Competitive wrestling requires resistance, and Allie and Kiera Hogan should have answers. A convincing threat can be beaten by opponents who recognize the danger and find a way through it.
The weak version would be several minutes of menace followed by a finish that makes all of it disposable. TNA should avoid asking viewers to believe Baszler can dismantle anyone while repeatedly presenting opponents who recover from everything she does without consequence.
Her reputation gives the match an advantage before it starts. The match should add to that reputation, even if the champions retain.
Serrano’s comeback needs room for her own voice
Serrano’s arrival in TNA already carries a story beyond her connection to Baszler.
TNA officially announced her signing on August 27. Its announcement noted her previous appearances in the promotion in 2020 and her experience as an NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion. She is returning to a company she had worked for before, with a different level of experience and a different opportunity.
Her account of how she wants to use that opportunity is worth taking seriously. In an interview with The Wrestling Classic, she said: “I’m just going to go with my gut instinct, and I can’t hold back anymore.” She described wanting to express herself more fully during this run.
That is a stronger foundation for a character than another general declaration that she is a good wrestler.
It gives TNA something specific to develop: what does Serrano choose when she believes she has held herself back before? Does she confront opponents directly? Does she pursue opportunities more aggressively? How does she react when the independence she values clashes with the cooperation a tag team requires?
Those are possibilities for the story, not developments TNA has already announced. They would allow the promotion to build from what Serrano has actually said about herself.
Her wrestling has also entered a different phase. After the knee injury she suffered in May 2025, she told Busted Open that she intended to move away from springboards and high-flying offense during this run. That was her description of the changes she wanted to make, rather than an announced medical restriction.
A more grounded approach can still give Serrano an identity distinct from Baszler’s submission work. The team needs complementary strengths, with each wrestler contributing something recognizable. Serrano should have opportunities to control exchanges, create openings and finish matches herself.
TNA also needs to let her speak. If Baszler handles every important explanation and Serrano mainly supplies the action, the booking would make it harder for Serrano to develop the individual presence she says she wants.
Their partnership should give her more material to work with. It should also leave the audience with a clearer understanding of who she is.
Their teamwork should explain why this pairing matters
Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano have enough history for TNA to establish a coherent approach quickly.
The match could show Baszler slowing an opponent down with targeted holds while Serrano cuts off the escape or capitalizes on the damage. It could show Serrano creating a positional advantage that allows Baszler to apply a submission. Either approach would make the tags part of a shared plan.
Those are booking possibilities. The point is that their teamwork should offer something viewers would not get from watching two separate singles wrestlers take turns.
That also gives Allie and Kiera Hogan something to overcome. The champions could anticipate an isolation sequence, interrupt a setup or force the challengers to compete at a pace they cannot comfortably control.
A match with that kind of give-and-take would establish all four wrestlers. It would show that the challengers have a plan and that the champions are experienced enough to recognize it.
TNA should also allow the important stretches to breathe. If the match moves straight from introductions to a quick finish, the audience will learn very little about the act the promotion has just introduced.
The reunion supplies familiarity. Coordinated offense, useful tags and a finish built from the match can turn that familiarity into a reason to keep watching.
2. Allie and Kiera Hogan need to remain central to their championship story
Much of the initial attention will understandably go to Baszler’s reveal. The champions still carry an equally important part of this match.
Allie and Kiera Hogan issued the challenge. That gives them agency from the beginning: they chose to respond to the confrontation by putting their championship on the line.
Their own partnership also has recent history worth carrying into Bound For Glory. At Lockdown, Hogan was revealed as Allie’s mystery partner for the championship match against Heather and M by Elegance. Hogan pinned M by Elegance in that match.
That gives the champions their own connection to the surprise-partner device. They have already stood together in a significant championship match. Baszler’s arrival now gives them a different problem to solve.
The coverage and presentation should reflect that. The titleholders deserve room to explain their confidence, respond to the reveal and establish why their partnership can withstand this challenge.
A championship match loses value when the belts are treated mainly as accessories for the incoming act. The new team benefits more from facing champions who are presented as difficult to beat.
The same principle applies to the wrestling. Allie and Kiera Hogan should make decisions that influence the match. They should recognize danger, attempt solutions and force the challengers to adapt. Their offense should have consequences too.
That does not require an evenly divided match or a particular winner. It requires the champions to be participants in the story TNA is telling.
If Baszler and Serrano win, overcoming a credible team would give their victory substance. If Allie and Kiera Hogan retain, defeating the challengers would add an important defense to their reign.
TNA has four wrestlers available to advance here. It would be wasteful to leave two of them with little purpose beyond establishing the other two.
Daria Rae’s presence creates a question, not an automatic faction
Daria Rae’s involvement in Serrano’s arrival makes the former WWE connection relevant. Serrano, Baszler and Rae, previously Sonya Deville, were all part of Pure Fusion Collective. Rae is now an authority figure in TNA.
That connection gives TNA options. It does not settle what the partnership at Bound For Glory will become.
Rae could remain separate from the team. Her history with both wrestlers could become part of a future story. TNA could also develop an alignment that uses her authority role. Each direction would need to be established on television.
A shared past cannot substitute for explaining the present relationship.
If Rae becomes involved, the promotion should show what that involvement accomplishes and how Baszler and Serrano respond to it. An authority figure influencing opportunities is different from a third wrestler joining a stable. The consequences should reflect the role she actually holds.
For now, the announced match should be judged on its own terms. Calling it a confirmed full Pure Fusion Collective revival would go beyond what the title-match announcement establishes.
3. The reunion needs a direction after Bound For Glory
The third issue is continuity.
TNA has confirmed Baszler’s involvement in this championship match. That announcement alone does not establish how long she will work with the promotion or how frequently she will appear. A title challenge should not be presented as proof of a particular contract arrangement.
Serrano’s signing, meanwhile, was explicitly announced by TNA in August. Those are different levels of confirmation, and the distinction matters when discussing their future.
If Baszler becomes a regular presence, the partnership can develop through additional matches and rivalries. If the appearance is limited, TNA can still use it to advance Serrano and the champions.
Either way, the result should lead somewhere.
A successful introduction can establish a team’s habits, give an opponent a grievance or change how a wrestler approaches the next opportunity. Even one match can leave useful material behind.
The concern would be a reunion that receives significant attention, reaches its title match and then leaves Serrano without a clear next step. Her development would have been paused for a surprise without receiving much in return.
TNA does not need to explain private business terms on television. It does need to make the story understandable with the wrestlers available to tell it.
That means preparing a follow-up that works for the actual arrangement, whatever it is. A championship win would create one set of expectations. A defeat would create another. Both deserve a response.
A title win would raise the standard immediately
Putting the championships on Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano would be a significant way to introduce the pairing to TNA’s title picture.
It would also create obligations. The team would need challengers, defenses and an identity strong enough to carry programs after the novelty of the reveal fades.
Allie and Kiera Hogan would need a response to losing their championship. A new contender would need a reason to pursue the incoming champions. Baszler and Serrano would need to show how they handle the responsibility together.
Winning gold could give those stories a starting point. The belts cannot supply all the character development themselves.
A title change would be particularly effective if the match established something opponents would have to study: a dangerous combination, a clear weakness or a pattern that can be challenged in a rematch.
An instant win based mostly on recognition would leave TNA with more work to do on the following episode. The strongest version would have the victory explain why this team deserves a sustained place in the division.
A loss can still advance the partnership
Retaining the championships on Allie and Kiera Hogan could also produce a useful outcome.
A competitive defense would give the champions another accomplishment while allowing Baszler and Serrano to establish their approach. The challengers could lose because the champions anticipated a setup, exploited a mistake or found the better answer in the decisive exchange.
The follow-up would then matter. Serrano could respond to falling short of an opportunity she arranged. Baszler could assess whether the team needs a different approach. The champions could address having backed up their challenge.
Those reactions would turn the result into material for the next stage.
There is little value in immediately blaming one partner and rushing toward a breakup before TNA has established what the partnership offers. Conflict can be useful later, once viewers have seen enough of the relationship to care about its direction.
The result should also remain meaningful. A defeated team can stay credible by responding intelligently and earning another opportunity. Repeatedly explaining away losses would eventually make the match outcomes feel inconsequential.
Bound For Glory can establish a winner and still leave both teams with something to do.
The Knockouts division should gain more than another familiar act
The wider value of this pairing depends on the opportunities it creates for other wrestlers.
A recognizable team can help give the tag championships more attention. That attention becomes useful when it supports additional rivalries, gives challengers meaningful wins and makes future defenses worth anticipating.
Serrano has already expressed interest in working with wrestlers across the Knockouts roster. In her interview with The Wrestling Classic, she named Kiera Hogan, Jada Stone and Xia Brookside among the opponents she wanted to face.
That interest offers a broader direction than indefinitely repeating the reunion story.
The team could anchor a tag program while leaving room for singles matches that develop different relationships. A younger or less established opponent could gain something from pushing either wrestler competitively. The champions could benefit from having a substantial threat to answer.
Those possibilities require opponents who have their own ambitions and sufficient television time to express them. A division grows when several acts become worth following, with victories and defeats changing their positions.
Baszler and Serrano have the experience to contribute to that process. Their value to TNA will become clearer through the programs they help build.
Final Thoughts
Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano have a sensible reason to team at Bound For Glory. Allie and Kiera Hogan issued the challenge, Serrano found a partner she knows, and Baszler gives the championship match a substantial new threat.
TNA now has to make the opportunity count for all four wrestlers.
Baszler needs a presentation supported by the wrestling. Serrano needs to retain the individual ambition that helped define her arrival. The champions need to remain central to the title story they initiated. The finish needs to give the promotion useful material for the next episode.
The familiar pairing has already done its first job by drawing attention to the match. Its success should be judged by what follows: clearer characters, meaningful competition and a championship program with a direction.
TNA has enough history to introduce Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano quickly. Bound For Glory needs to give people a reason to care about their future.

I’m the quiet one until the bell rings then I’ve got takes. I live for WWE NXT and TNA, I want every promotion to succeed, and I will absolutely roast the bad decisions on sight (because someone has to). Anime taught me to respect long-term storytelling; wrestling taught me that sometimes the plan is “we panicked” and called it “unpredictable.” The Miz got me into all of this, so yeah I appreciate confidence, commitment, and the art of talking like you’re already the main event.
