It was announced during tonight’s Money in the Bank and Worlds Collide go-home edition of Friday Night SmackDown that the King and Queen of the Ring Tournaments will be making their grand return, continuing the tradition established in last year’s acclaimed tournaments. The announcement came directly from Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, who confirmed that the tournaments will officially kick off next week.
With little time to recover from the fallout of tomorrow’s Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, the men and women of WWE will immediately shift focus to this high-stakes competition. This year’s tournaments promise to be more regal and unpredictable than ever, beginning with four Fatal Four-Way qualifying matches in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
From there, the field will narrow into a co-branded format for both the semifinals and finals, blending Raw and SmackDown talent in dream match scenarios.
The tournaments will culminate on the global stage at this year’s Night of Champions Premium Live Event, taking place on Saturday, June 28th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
But the stakes don’t stop at the crown.
The winners of each tournament will not only be honored as King and Queen of the Ring, but they will also earn world championship opportunities at the first-ever two-night SummerSlam Premium Live Event, set for Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
With championship gold and royal glory on the line, the 2025 King and Queen of the Ring Tournaments are shaping up to be must-see events that could reshape the championship picture heading into the biggest SummerSlam of all time.
Immediately following the massive announcement, it was revealed that both Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair appear to be early participants in this year’s Queen of the Ring Tournament.
By revealing Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill as the tournament’s first official entrants, WWE has set the tone for what could be one of the most star-studded Queen of the Ring brackets in history.
- Charlotte Flair: Already a record-setting multi-time women’s champion, Flair now aims to add a Queen of the Ring title to her historic legacy. Her blend of technical excellence and big-match experience makes her an immediate favorite.
- Jade Cargill: A dominant and fast-rising force in WWE, Cargill made waves with her performance in last year’s tournament and has quickly become one of the most must-watch athletes on the roster. A deep run here could catapult her into a title match — and solidify her place among WWE’s elite.
Last year marked the return of both tournaments as a Premium Live Event, which took place on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at the Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The tournaments proved to be game-changers for both winners:
- King of the Ring 2024: Gunther
“The Ring General” defeated Randy Orton in a brutal final to earn the crown. He went on to challenge and defeat Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, beginning one of the most dominant reigns in modern WWE history. - Queen of the Ring 2024: Nia Jax
Jax overcame Lyra Valkyria in the finals and used her victory to earn a WWE Women’s Championship opportunity at SummerSlam. Her resurgence as a main-event threat marked one of the year’s biggest comeback stories.
These victories solidified the tournament’s renewed relevance and elevated both competitors to championship status within months of being crowned.
With Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill already in, speculation is swirling about who else may join the field. Will established champions enter to test their dominance? Could surprise returns or NXT call-ups shake up the brackets?
As the tournaments unfold, fans can look forward to high-stakes matches, potential dream bouts, and the crowning of two new rulers of WWE, both destined to headline SummerSlam 2025.
