This past weekend Drew McIntyre accomplished his goal of winning a world title in front of live fans when he defeated Seth “Freakin” Rollins to open night 2 of WrestleMania XL. His moment would only last five minutes and 46 as CM Punk would attack him for gloating in his face leading to Damian Priest cashing in his Money in the Bank contract to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Since the announcement of Clash at the Castle in Scotland and McIntyre winning the world title many people have assumed that he quietly signed a new contract. According to Fightful Select that isn’t the case.
McIntyre has told talent and people close to him that he hasn’t signed a new contract as of this writing. Even thought this is unorthodox for previous regimes in the company there has been no cause for alarm. This situation has become a lot more common and each is being handled case by case.
His contract was originally set to expire before WrestleMania but time was added to it and is set to expire within a few months. WWE is confident that they will resign him and have plans for him to feud with CM Punk.
It is worth noting that McIntyre has expressed both his desire to stay with WWE but believes he will succeed outside of the company if needed to.

I’m the quiet one until the bell rings then I’ve got takes. I live for WWE NXT and TNA, I want every promotion to succeed, and I will absolutely roast the bad decisions on sight (because someone has to). Anime taught me to respect long-term storytelling; wrestling taught me that sometimes the plan is “we panicked” and called it “unpredictable.” The Miz got me into all of this, so yeah I appreciate confidence, commitment, and the art of talking like you’re already the main event. Now I bring that same energy to the page as the main writer for Late Night Crew Wrestling because if you’re not here to be must-see and tell the truth, why are you here?!
