WWE is bringing together two of New York’s biggest attractions for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The company officially announced Monday that New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson accepts Roman Reigns’ invitation to appear at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, July 18. Saturday Night’s Main Event will begin at 8 p.m. ET and stream live on Peacock in the United States.
The announcement developed through a brief but effective exchange on social media. Reigns referred to Brunson as “The King of New York,” called Madison Square Garden “The Mecca” and invited him to join the OTC so the entire world could acknowledge them together. Brunson did not need a lengthy response, simply telling Reigns, “See you there.” WWE made the appearance official shortly afterward.
Brunson’s involvement is not just another celebrity appearance designed to generate headlines. He already has history inside WWE’s version of Madison Square Garden.
During the June 28, 2024 episode of SmackDown, Brunson became involved in the escalating rivalry between Logan Paul and LA Knight. Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton attempted to hand Paul a pair of brass knuckles during a Money in the Bank qualifying match, but Brunson jumped the barricade and stopped him. The distraction allowed Knight to capitalize and defeat Paul and Santos Escobar.
Brunson and Haliburton then confronted each other at ringside, with Brunson grabbing a steel chair as the Garden erupted behind him. The moment blurred the line between the NBA and WWE while using the real-life Knicks-Pacers rivalry to create one of the night’s loudest reactions.
That history makes Brunson a natural fit for another WWE event at Madison Square Garden. He is not being brought into an unfamiliar environment and introduced as a random guest. WWE audiences already understand his connection to the building, his rivalry with Haliburton and his willingness to become involved when the moment calls for it.
WWE has not announced an official match or physical role for Reigns and Brunson. The company is promoting their presence together as a featured attraction, leaving open the possibility of anything from a celebratory New York moment to a storyline development during the broadcast.
Pairing Brunson with Reigns is also a smart way to make Saturday Night’s Main Event feel connected to the city hosting it. Reigns supplies the unmistakable presence of WWE’s OTC, while Brunson represents the Knicks and the same Madison Square Garden crowd WWE will be performing in front of.
Whatever WWE has planned, Brunson joining Reigns gives the show another genuine attraction rather than an empty celebrity cameo. The King of New York will stand alongside the Tribal Chief inside the World’s Most Famous Arena—and WWE has left just enough unanswered to make viewers wonder what will happen when they appear together.

I’m the quiet one until the bell rings then I’ve got takes. I live for WWE NXT and TNA, I want every promotion to succeed, and I will absolutely roast the bad decisions on sight (because someone has to). Anime taught me to respect long-term storytelling; wrestling taught me that sometimes the plan is “we panicked” and called it “unpredictable.” The Miz got me into all of this, so yeah I appreciate confidence, commitment, and the art of talking like you’re already the main event. Now I bring that same energy to the page as the main writer for Late Night Crew Wrestling because if you’re not here to be must-see and tell the truth, why are you here?!
