TNA Lockdown August 23, 2026 Results & Recap: The Nemeths Win Tag Gold, Leon Slater Calls His Shot at Bound For Glory

TNA brought Lockdown back tonight and made the return matter. The Nemeths dethroned The Hardys for the TNA World Tag Team Championship, Leon Slater regained the X-Division Championship from Cedric Alexander only to immediately surrender it through Option C for a Bound For Glory World title shot against Nic Nemeth, Mustafa Ali reclaimed the International Championship, Kiera Hogan returned and signed with TNA, and Avery Styles and Joe Alonzo also officially joined the company. TNA packed plenty into the show, sometimes too much, but the important part is that Lockdown actually changed the direction of the promotion. Championships moved, new wrestlers entered the picture, the Knockouts division gained multiple stories, and Bound For Glory now has a legitimate World Championship centerpiece.

Joe Alonzo Earns a TNA Contract

Joe Alonzo beating Home Town Man was not one of the biggest matches tonight, but the result mattered. Alonzo retained the AAW Heavyweight Championship and earned himself a TNA deal, giving the company another young name it can develop without immediately forcing into a major program.

The finish also fit the match. Alonzo used Home Town Man’s mask to create his opening rather than simply beating him straight up, which gives TNA something to build from if it wants Alonzo to lean more heel.

Grade: C+

What worked

• The contract stipulation gave the match a purpose.
• Alonzo immediately leaves Lockdown with something tangible.
• The finish protected Home Town Man.

What didn’t work

• The match itself was secondary to the signing.
• TNA will have to quickly establish who Alonzo is to viewers who do not already know him.

The Righteous Beat BDE and Rich Swann

The Righteous defeating BDE and Rich Swann was solid pre-show wrestling, but not much more than that. Vincent and Dutch got another win while Swann helped keep the pace moving.

There was nothing wrong with it. There also was not much about it that mattered once the main card started.

What worked

• The Righteous got another useful win.
• The action was clean and easy to follow.

What didn’t work

• There was little story attached to the result.
• It felt like a television match placed on a pay-per-view pre-show.

Trey Miguel Hands Special Agent Zero His First Singles Loss

Trey Miguel caught Special Agent Zero with a roll-up and gave him his first singles loss.

The finish protected Agent Zero and gave Trey an actual result he can build on, especially because the two remain connected going into Thursday’s LIVE iMPACT. The only real problem is the setting. If TNA wanted Agent Zero’s first loss to feel significant, a Countdown match was a strange place to do it.

Grade: B-

What worked

• Trey got a meaningful singles win.
• Agent Zero was protected by the finish.
• The result immediately feeds into Thursday.

What didn’t work

• Agent Zero’s first loss deserved a bigger setting.
• TNA now has to make the follow-up matter.

Indi Hartwell and Daria Rae Keep Getting More Personal

Indi Hartwell made it clear tonight that she wants the Knockouts World Championship.

Daria Rae made it equally clear that she is not interested in making that path easy.

Their Countdown confrontation added another layer to a feud that is becoming less about rankings and more about control. Indi believes she deserves a title opportunity. Daria believes she has not earned one and warned her that she was already on “strike one.”

Then TNA showed Indi watching Xia Brookside defend the championship later tonight.

That was not subtle.

Indi is clearly moving toward the World title picture even after being eliminated from the Knockouts Television Championship Tournament. The better story now is not simply Indi demanding a title shot. It is Indi being forced to earn one while Daria keeps putting obstacles in front of her.

That could become one of TNA’s stronger stories on the road to Bound For Glory if the championship remains the focus.

• Indi’s title goal is now completely clear.
• The history between Indi and Daria gives the feud depth.
• Indi watching Xia connected the storyline directly to the championship.

What didn’t work

• TNA still needs to define what Indi has to do to earn the opportunity.
• Authority-figure stories become annoying fast if the obstacles feel arbitrary.

AJ Francis Beats Elijah

AJ Francis defeated Elijah after interference from Expressions before Elijah eventually got his revenge with the guitar afterward.

The physicality worked. The finish was less impressive.

Lockdown is supposed to make interference harder, yet TNA still found ways to involve outside people. That has always been part of wrestling cage logic, but it can make the stipulation feel pointless when it happens too often.

Francis keeps his win. Elijah got the final visual. That should probably be enough to move both men forward.

Grade: B-

What worked

• Francis kept his momentum.
• Elijah got a satisfying revenge spot.
• The feud still felt heated.

What didn’t work

• More interference inside a cage hurt the concept.
• There is a real risk of stretching this feud longer than necessary.

Kiera Hogan Returns and Immediately Becomes Champion

Allie’s mystery partner was Kiera Hogan, and TNA wasted no time making the return matter.

Kiera helped Allie retain the Knockouts World Tag Team Championship against Heather by Elegance and M by Elegance before TNA confirmed she had officially signed.

That was the right call.

Kiera already has history in the division and immediately gives the Knockouts tag scene another established name instead of another thrown-together pairing.

The return was bigger than the match itself, but that was fine tonight.

• Kiera received a strong return.
• She immediately had a role instead of just appearing for nostalgia.
• The signing strengthens the Knockouts tag division.

What didn’t work

• The match was overshadowed by the surprise.
• M taking a loss days before the television title tournament final is questionable unless Thursday pays it off.

Frankie Kazarian Outsmarts Moose

Frankie Kazarian defeating Moose was one of the smartest finishes tonight.

Moose speared Kazarian through the cage opening, but Kazarian hit the floor first and won under the escape rules.

That finish worked because Moose essentially beat himself by being too aggressive. Kazarian did not overpower him. He survived him.

The Spanish Fly from the top of the cage gave the match its major spectacle, but the finish is what made it memorable.

Kazarian gained something without Moose being made to look weak.

Grade: A-

What worked

• Excellent use of the stipulation.
• Kazarian won in a way that fit his character.
• Moose stayed protected.
• The cage actually mattered to the finish.

What didn’t work

• Escape matches always create some awkward logic.
• The match could have gone slightly longer.

Xia Brookside Survives Elayna Black

Xia Brookside retained the Knockouts World Championship against Elayna Black, but she did not look unbeatable doing it.

Black pushed Xia into a desperate fight and had a believable chance to win before Xia resorted to powder and stole the pin.

The finish was important because it did not make Black look like another challenger Xia simply put away. Black had the champion in trouble.

Meanwhile, Indi Hartwell watched from backstage.

TNA now has multiple directions around the Knockouts World Championship. Elayna can argue she was cheated. Indi wants the title. Daria Rae is standing in Indi’s way.

That is much healthier than a division built around one challenger at a time.

Grade: A-

• Black looked dangerous.
• Xia’s cheating felt like desperation rather than routine heel behavior.
• Indi watching gave the match another layer.
• The championship picture now has more than one moving piece.

What didn’t work

• Another dirty finish added to an already interference-heavy show.
• TNA has to follow through with Elayna rather than forgetting her.

Mustafa Ali Reclaims the International Championship

Mustafa Ali and Jason Hotch produced the best match tonight.

Hotch wrestled like somebody trying to completely escape Ali’s control. Ali wrestled like somebody who could not accept that Hotch had broken away.

That made the violence feel personal instead of random.

Hotch went through a table from the cage. He delivered a double stomp from the top. Order 4 got involved. Ali used Hotch’s family as part of the psychological warfare. By the end, both men looked like they had been through an actual fight.

Ali eventually survived and regained the International Championship.

The only concern is how short Hotch’s reign ended up being. TNA spent a lot of time getting Hotch to the point where he could finally beat Ali. Taking the championship back this quickly risks undercutting that payoff.

Thursday’s tag match should tell us whether this was the end of one chapter or just another escalation.

Grade: A

What worked

• The match felt personal from beginning to end.
• Hotch looked like a major threat even in defeat.
• Ali was far more compelling as a manipulative villain than a generic heel champion.
• The cage spots actually connected to the story.

What didn’t work

• There was too much interference.
• Hotch’s title reign ended very quickly.
• Some of the violence crossed into excess.

Avery Styles Signs With TNA

Avery Styles officially announced that he had signed with TNA, immediately tying his future to the company where his father became one of the defining stars of an era.

The better part of the segment was Frankie Kazarian approaching him afterward.

Kazarian presenting himself as a veteran mentor is exactly the kind of thing Avery should be suspicious of, especially after what Kazarian did to Moose earlier tonight.

TNA also needs to be careful here.

Avery is 19 and inexperienced. His last name is going to create attention whether he earns it or not. The company should let him develop instead of trying to force him into being AJ Styles 2.0.

What worked

• The signing naturally connected TNA’s past and future.
• Kazarian immediately gave Avery a storyline.
• TNA acknowledged AJ Styles without making the entire segment about him.

What didn’t work

• Avery is still extremely inexperienced.
• TNA cannot rush him just because of his name.

Leon Slater Defeats Cedric Alexander

The match was excellent.

The stipulation attached to Leon Slater’s legacy was not.

The idea that a loss could somehow erase or invalidate Leon’s previous X-Division Championship reign was unnecessary. Viewers already watched the reign happen. TNA did not need fake historical stakes to make the match important.

Fortunately, Leon and Cedric wrestled like the story mattered anyway.

Both men bled. Leon used Cedric’s own Lumbar Check against him repeatedly before finally putting him down with the Swanton 450 and winning the Last Man Standing match.

Leon regained the X-Division Championship.

Then TNA revealed why it needed him to regain it.

Grade: A-

What worked

• Leon and Cedric wrestled with urgency.
• Leon using the Lumbar Check was excellent storytelling.
• The finish felt definitive.
• The win directly set up the Option C angle later.

What didn’t work

• The “erase the reign” stipulation was unnecessary.
• TNA overcomplicated something that was already compelling.

The Mystery Attacker Story Keeps Growing

Moose.

Cedric Alexander.

Now Elijah.

TNA added another victim tonight when Elijah was found down backstage, pulling Daria Rae away from her confrontation with Indi Hartwell.

The company is clearly building a pattern without giving away the answer yet.

That works for now.

The victims do not have an obvious connection, which makes the mystery more interesting. The next step needs to be clues rather than simply adding another unconscious wrestler every week.

• The third attack established a real pattern.
• TNA kept the segment short.
• The lack of an obvious connection keeps people guessing.

What didn’t work

• Mystery angles get repetitive quickly without progression.
• TNA now needs clues, not just more victims.

The System Wins Lethal Lockdown

The System defeated Fabian Aichner, KC Navarro, Ricky Sosa and Jada Stone in a chaotic Lethal Lockdown match that finally delivered the full Lockdown atmosphere.

Weapons came out. The roof came down. Jada launched herself from the cage and later superplexed Alisha Edwards into thumbtacks. Ricky Sosa wrapped his arm in barbed wire. The younger team looked like it belonged.

That is why the result is debatable.

The System winning is not automatically bad. Veterans surviving younger wrestlers because of experience can work. But if Jada, Sosa, Navarro and Aichner go back to the same spots on Thursday, then TNA wasted the chance to create real upward movement.

The follow-up decides whether this was a useful loss or just another veteran win.

Grade: A-

• The match finally felt like classic Lockdown chaos.
• Jada Stone and Ricky Sosa had standout moments.
• The younger team looked credible.
• The System’s experience gave the finish some logic.

What didn’t work

• The younger team probably would have benefited more from winning.

• Some of the weapon spots blended together by the end.

The Nemeths Beat The Hardys for the Tag Team Titles

The Nemeths defeated The Hardys to win the TNA World Tag Team Championship in the main event, making Nic Nemeth both World Champion and one-half of the tag champions.

The tornado cage format helped because it eliminated unnecessary tags and let both teams go straight at each other.

Matt Hardy’s elbow from the cage through a table gave the match its biggest visual before Nic eventually caught Matt with the Danger Zone and ended the reign.

The match itself was very good.

It was not the best match tonight.

That did not matter once Leon Slater came out.

The title change became far more important because it put Nic Nemeth at the absolute peak of his power right before Leon challenged him for the belt that matters most.

Grade: B+

What worked

• The tornado format kept the pace moving.
• The tag title change felt significant.
• Nic becoming a double champion strengthened the Bound For Glory story.
• The match set up the closing angle perfectly.

What didn’t work

• The main event felt shorter than expected.
• Several earlier matches were better bell to bell.
• The Hardys’ loss now needs meaningful fallout.

Leon Slater Invokes Option C

This was the most important segment tonight.

Leon Slater had just survived Cedric Alexander, regained the X-Division Championship and preserved everything attached to his previous reign.

Then he gave the title up.

Leon invoked Option C and officially challenged Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship at Bound For Glory.

That is how Option C should be used.

Leon did not surrender the X-Division Championship because it meant nothing to him. He surrendered it because it meant enough to earn him the biggest opportunity of his career.

Nic tried to attack him.

Leon put both Nemeth brothers down.

Then he ended Lockdown holding the TNA World Championship and telling everyone exactly where he intends to be October 11.

TNA has its Bound For Glory main-event story.

The veteran double champion at the top of the company against the 21-year-old star trying to become the youngest TNA World Champion ever.

That is simple.

That is clear.

And that is exactly what the road to Bound For Glory needed.

Grade: A+

What worked

• Option C gave the show a major closing consequence.
• Leon’s earlier match became even more important afterward.
• Nic’s double-champion status makes him feel even more powerful.
• Bound For Glory immediately has a strong World title story.
• Leon standing over the Nemeths was the right final image.

What didn’t work

• The only real concern is follow-through.
• TNA cannot cool Leon down between now and Bound For Glory.

The Signings of Kiera Hogan, Avery Styles and Joe Alonzo

TNA added three very different pieces tonight.

Kiera Hogan is the immediate contributor. She knows TNA, already has history in the Knockouts division and became champion again on her first night back.

Joe Alonzo is a depth signing with room to grow.

Avery Styles is the long-term project.

That balance matters.

TNA does not need every signing to be presented as the next major star immediately. Kiera can help now. Alonzo can develop. Avery can be protected while the company finds out what kind of wrestler he actually becomes.

Indi Hartwell, Daria Rae and the Knockouts World Championship

Indi Hartwell’s story with Daria Rae is becoming more interesting because it is finally connected to something that matters.

The Knockouts World Championship.

Indi wants Xia Brookside.

Daria does not believe Indi deserves the opportunity.

Xia is still champion.

That is enough to build around.

TNA should make Indi earn the match rather than simply giving it to her. Let Daria place legitimate obstacles in front of her. Let Xia take advantage of their conflict.

If Indi eventually reaches Bound For Glory, the title shot will feel earned instead of handed out.

The Road to Bound For Glory

TNA finally has a clear centerpiece heading toward October 11.

Nic Nemeth versus Leon Slater is official.

The Nemeths are tag champions.

The X-Division Championship is now vacant.

Mustafa Ali is International Champion again.

Xia Brookside still has Elayna Black and Indi Hartwell hanging around the Knockouts World Championship.

Kiera Hogan is back.

The mystery attacker remains unresolved.

Avery Styles is now tied to Frankie Kazarian.

Jada Stone is one match away from becoming the inaugural Knockouts Television Champion.

That is enough.

TNA does not need to complicate the road to Bound For Glory with endless swerves. It needs to move these stories forward every week.

Best Match of the Night

Mustafa Ali vs. Jason Hotch

Leon Slater versus Cedric Alexander was excellent.

Moose versus Frankie Kazarian had the smartest finish.

Lethal Lockdown had the most spectacle.

But Ali and Hotch had the best combination of story, hatred, violence and consequence.

Grade: A

Best Segment of the Night

Leon Slater Invokes Option C

Nothing changed TNA’s direction tonight more than Leon surrendering the X-Division Championship and challenging Nic Nemeth at Bound For Glory.

That was the right ending.

Grade: A+

TNA Lockdown was not perfect tonight, but it was important.

That matters more.

The company brought back one of its signature concepts and did not waste it on nostalgia.

The Nemeths are tag champions.

Nic Nemeth is a double champion.

Leon Slater gave up the X-Division Championship to challenge him at Bound For Glory.

Mustafa Ali regained the International Championship.

Kiera Hogan returned.

Avery Styles and Joe Alonzo signed.

The Knockouts division picked up multiple stories.

The mystery attacker angle grew.

And TNA finally has a clear World Championship direction heading into its biggest event of the year.

There was too much interference.

Some of the cage logic was questionable.

Hotch’s title reign probably ended too quickly.

The System beating the younger team can still become a mistake if TNA does nothing with those wrestlers afterward.

But tonight ended exactly the way it needed to.

TNA brought Lockdown back by looking backward.

Leon Slater made sure the company left it looking forward.
