WWE Reportedly Circling Again as Mike Santana’s TNA Contract Nears Expiration This Summer

WWE’s long-standing interest in current TNA Wrestling World Champion Mike Santana is once again moving toward a critical inflection point, as his contract status sets up what could become one of the most important talent decisions of the year.

According to reporting credited to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Santana’s current deal is now expected to expire this summer, reopening a situation that, in reality, has been building behind the scenes for well over a year. Multiple credible outlets, including Fightful, have consistently reported that Santana’s previous contract was originally set to expire at the end of 2025, with WWE interest in his services dating back months before that window closed.

At that time, there was a growing expectation within the industry that Santana could make the jump. Instead, he quietly re-signed with TNA, a move that aligned with how the company has handled several key contract extensions—low-profile and strategic. That decision bought TNA time, but it did not eliminate WWE’s interest. It simply delayed the situation now back on the table.

Santana is no longer the same talent WWE was monitoring during that previous window. Over the past year, he has firmly established himself as a top-tier singles star and one of the central figures in TNA’s current identity, a rise driven by strong promo work, layered storytelling, and consistent main event positioning. That evolution is exactly why WWE’s interest has not only remained but intensified.

His appearance on WWE NXT during the New York City show last month only added fuel to that conversation. Within the industry, those crossover moments—made possible through the WWE–TNA working relationship—are often viewed less as one-off appearances and more as evaluation points. Santana’s presence there reinforced that he is already on WWE’s radar as a television-ready performer, not a developmental project.

At the same time, it is important to separate sustained interest from anything definitive. No top-tier outlet has reported that Santana has signed with WWE or formally received an offer. What is clear, however, is that WWE has now had two separate windows where it has tracked Santana closely—and this upcoming expiration may be its best opportunity yet.

The timing also matters for TNA. In an era where talent movement is increasingly fluid, the company has managed to maintain visibility through cross-promotional appearances involving names like Joe Hendry and Jordynne Grace, but retaining cornerstone talent remains a different challenge entirely. Santana sits in that category.

If TNA is unable to secure him again, it would reinforce the growing perception that top names are constantly in play for larger promotions. If they do retain him, it becomes a significant statement about the company’s ability to hold onto a main event-level talent in a competitive market.

For WWE, the appeal is straightforward. Santana brings experience across multiple national platforms, a proven ability to connect through character-driven storytelling, and the credibility of a current world champion. That combination makes him a low-risk, high-upside target, particularly within a system that increasingly values authenticity.

This is not a new story—it is the continuation of one that nearly reached its conclusion once before. WWE pushed when Santana’s last deal was set to expire and came up short when TNA quietly secured an extension. Now, with his contract once again approaching its end, the situation has reset with higher stakes and greater leverage on Santana’s side.

What happens next will ultimately come down to whether TNA can keep one of its most important pieces, or whether WWE finally capitalizes on an interest that has been building for well over a year.
