WWE NXT October 6, 2026 Preview: 20-Woman Battle Royal Puts Halloween Havoc’s Build to the Test

The WWE NXT October 6 card puts a meaningful piece of Halloween Havoc’s build on the line. A 20-woman battle royal will determine NXT Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan’s challenger, while the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic completes its opening round. Last week delivered two tournament eliminations and an impressive replacement title challenger, but left the men’s championship picture unsettled and several personal issues waiting for an answer. With NXT Halloween Havoc set for October 31, tonight needs to turn those developments into programs worth following. NXT airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

Here’s everything advertised for tonight’s show

  • 20-Woman Battle Royal (NXT Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender Match)
  • Sean Legacy & Dorian Van Dux vs. Tokyo Bad Boys (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First-Round Match)
  • Hank & Tank vs. Shido Ash & Viktor Zanov (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First-Round Match)
  • Shiloh Hill vs. Naraku
  • Zilla Fatu’s promised confrontation with Lexis King

The advertised battle royal field includes Arianna Grace, Layla Diggs, Indi Hartwell, TNA Knockouts World Champion Xia Brookside, TNA Knockouts Television Champion M by Elegance, Heather by Elegance, Ivy Nile, Kiana James, Adelicious, Lady Shani, Lizzy Rain, Thea Hail, Skylar Raye, NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria, Izzi Dame, Kali Armstrong, Reina Volcan, EVOLVE Women’s Champion Nikkita Lyons, Chantel Monroe and AAA Reina de Reinas Champion La Catalina.

Reina Volcan already made her intentions physical last week, interrupting Jordan’s celebration of herself with an attack. Winning tonight would give that aggression a championship payoff. An early elimination would demand an explanation for why Volcan was positioned so prominently before the match.

Indi Hartwell offers history as a former NXT Women’s Champion returning to the championship picture after relinquishing the title when she moved to Raw. La Catalina has unfinished business with Jordan, while Brookside brings the standing of a reigning Knockouts World Champion. The winner needs a reason to fight Jordan beyond surviving a crowded ring. Four TNA entrants also give that partnership a visible role after the Dusty Classic field included no TNA teams.

Thea Hail enters after losing to Zaria on September 29. Her pinfall over Zaria in the previous week’s tag match gave the challenge substance, and their competitive title match ended with Zaria’s Spear and F-5. Hail remained a fighter the crowd could support; Zaria finally answered her in a championship match.

The follow-up was weaker. Izzi Dame decorated Zaria’s locker with reminders of her school-play past, embarrassing the champion immediately after an imposing victory. It is a flimsy way to undermine someone presented as physically intimidating. With both women in tonight’s battle royal, their issue can affect the eliminations and give the taunting a consequence inside the ring.

Last week’s episode opened with a memorial graphic honoring Neville. The championship story changed because Mason Rook was not medically cleared, with Robert Stone describing him as out for the foreseeable future. NXT Champion Grayson Waller’s scheduled defense became an open challenge, and EK Prosper emerged from the locker-room scramble to take the opportunity.

Prosper justified the television time. His athletic offense, the moonsault through the announce table and his resistance before two Rolling Stunners gave Waller a challenger the audience could rally behind. The presentation of the opportunity was harder to defend. A race to reach the ring gave several feuds airtime, but reduced access to NXT’s top championship to whoever escaped the traffic. Prosper’s performance deserved more weight than the stunt that got him there.

Waller retained, and the match gave Prosper something NXT can build on. Prosper should have a meaningful response to pushing the champion that far, while Rook’s open-ended absence leaves Waller’s Halloween Havoc direction needing attention.

Myles Borne blamed Tavion Heights for his setbacks and recast the audience’s support as pity while explaining his betrayal. That resentment gives the turn a motive. The betrayal has now been explained; Heights needs a substantial response so the feud can progress beyond Borne repeatedly justifying the same attack.

Cruz Montana’s account of his upbringing, family and recovery gave Dion Lennox’s insults weight beyond ordinary trash talk. Kendal Grey’s continued sessions with a sports psychologist explored how being unable to wrestle has disrupted her identity. Both stories invite an emotional investment that future matches will have to repay. Repeating the vulnerability without developing the conflict would waste what these segments established.

Zilla Fatu stopped BirthRight’s post-match attack on Mini Vikingo and Chazz Hall, then lost his route into Waller’s open challenge amid the interference around the ring. He ended the episode targeting Lexis King for tonight. That is a clear revenge hook, though his promised confrontation does not itself confirm a sanctioned singles match.

Shiloh Hill’s rematch with Naraku should answer whether his research into the mist has helped. On September 1, Naraku used mist on his hand to blind Hill before beating him. Another identical defeat tonight would leave weeks of character material with very little to show for it.

Mini Vikingo and Chazz Hall’s Dusty Classic victory over BirthRight earned a quarterfinal against NXT Tag Team Champions The Vanity Project. Fraxiom eliminated DarkState to set up Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno, with Axiom’s Spanish Fly leading into Nathan Frazer’s Phoenix Splash.

Vikingo and Hall’s partnership brings AAA and EVOLVE together, and beating BirthRight gives them an actual result to carry into the champions’ match. Fraxiom’s return raises the standard for the competition, but their presence should also help establish the emerging teams around them.

Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux face Tokyo Bad Boys tonight. Van Dux’s advertised return restores their partnership after Prosper replaced him in the September 22 six-man match. The winners meet AAA World Tag Team Champions The Wagner Brothers. Former NXT Tag Team Champions Hank & Tank face EVOLVE’s Shido Ash and Viktor Zanov, with The Creed Brothers awaiting the winners.

Legacy and Van Dux need to establish their teamwork after that interruption. Hank & Tank should be favored on experience, but Ash and Zanov can use this stage to establish themselves even in defeat. Both matches offer a route to a much tougher quarterfinal; the performances should explain why the winners belong there.

Introduced in 2015 to honor Dusty Rhodes, the Classic returns for the first time since Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin won in 2024. Cody Rhodes has said he will personally present the trophy. The established teams already have recognition; the newer entrants need identities that survive their elimination.

Reaction to last week reflected the gap between the performances and their presentation. The live crowd supported Hail and Prosper, while post-show reviews differed over the open-challenge scramble, Borne’s explanation and the surrounding character segments. The audience rose to 670,000 viewers from 628,000, with the 18–49 rating increasing to 0.11 from 0.09. Those gains are encouraging, but one improved week cannot establish a new star or settle an unfinished feud.

Tonight also faces AEW Dynamite’s Grand Slam France broadcast in the same 8 p.m. ET slot. The battle royal gives NXT a substantial attraction, but its lasting value will come from what it establishes for Halloween Havoc. Jordan’s challenger will be decided; Waller’s next direction and the personal feuds still require follow-through across October.

WWE NXT October 6: Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Standings

The 14-team tournament began September 22. Four first-round matches are complete, with six quarterfinalists secured when the two byes are included. Tonight’s remaining opening matches fill the final two places.

Sean Legacy & Dorian Van Dux, Tokyo Bad Boys, Hank & Tank, and Shido Ash & Viktor Zanov remain alive with their first-round matches pending. This is a single-elimination bracket, so there are no points standings. Ten teams remain entering tonight; eight will remain once the opening round is complete.

Final Thoughts

WWE NXT October 6 needs to give Jordan’s challenger a convincing reason to oppose her, make the final opening-round results matter, and move the personal feuds toward matches with consequences. Last week gave Prosper an opening and the tournament two useful wins. Building on that work would give Halloween Havoc something stronger than a card assembled through interruptions and grudges left hanging.
