WWE superstar Shayna Baszler will be participating in Mixed Martial Arts Fighter Josh Barnett’s GCW Bloodsport X event on Thursday April 4th, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
According to Fight Select on Friday March 15, 2024 it was revealed that multiple WWE talent were to be at the event and GCW promoted it themselves. This came as a major surprise as many AEW talent are working the event too.
WWE rarely if ever allow their talent to work independent events and there have been many attempts for a partnership between GCW and WWE in the past.
Fightful learned that Barnett tired to get former MMA fighter and former WWE superstar, Jessamyn Duke work a Bloodsport event while under contract with WWE. Duke has fought with the UFC, been on The Ultimate Fighter and trained with Barnett. Duke hasn’t returned to an octagon or wrestling ring since her release in 2021.
Sources within WWE have noted that current WWE CCO and Josh Barnett have been friends for years. Barnett also personally asked for former NXT Women’s Champion and three time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Shayna Baszler to make an appearance.
Two years ago it was rumored that WWE and GCW were working together again but according to Fightful that was never the case.
Yesterday it was announced by Josh Barrett that Shayna Baszler will be participating at the Bloodsport X event and that her opponent will be none other than former TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champion Masha Slamovich.
