The 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic finally has its complete 14-team field, and the deeper you dig into this lineup, the better the tournament looks on paper.
WWE has assembled former Dusty winners, current NXT and AAA champions, former NXT champions, international veterans, developmental prospects, two Olympic judoka and one completely fresh pairing. Tournament action begins Tuesday, September 22 on WWE NXT, while NXT Tag Team Champions The Vanity Project and AAA World Tag Team Champions The Wagner Brothers will receive first-round byes.
As of September 20, WWE has not announced the actual first-round matchups.
That distinction matters. We know all 14 teams. We still do not know who is wrestling whom.

Now there are no placeholders left.
The field is complete, and there is enough history behind these teams that WWE should not need to manufacture importance once the tournament begins.
The documented match totals below are database snapshots through September 20. Individual totals represent recorded professional wrestling matches, while team totals can include multi-team or multi-man matches in which both partners competed together. They should not be mistaken for official WWE statistics.
All 14 Teams in the 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic
- Birth Right (Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo & Uriah Connors): This combination is documented together since March 17, giving them roughly six months as a team. They defeated Hank & Tank in the semifinal of NXT’s Tag Team Championship No. 1 contender tournament before losing the March 31 final to Los Americanos. Stacks has approximately 230 documented matches and Connors 240. Stacks is also a two-time former NXT Tag Team Champion and former Heritage Cup Champion. They already proved they can survive a tournament run. What they do not have yet is a major accomplishment together.
- Mini Vikingo & Chaz “Starboy” Hall: The genuine wild card of the field. There is no established two-man résumé between them entering the Dusty. Mini Vikingo is only 18 but already has approximately 221 documented matches after beginning his career in 2021. Hall has roughly 288 and is a former WWE ID Men’s Champion. Both have substantially more experience than their ages suggest. None of that automatically creates tag-team chemistry.
- Fraxiom: Their regular two-man partnership dates to January 2024. They reached the semifinals of that year’s Dusty Classic and went on to become two-time NXT Tag Team Champions, with WWE recognizing their two reigns at a combined 355 days. Axiom has approximately 423 documented matches and Frazer 232. Both have also held the Heritage Cup, with Axiom winning the inaugural tournament under his A-Kid identity. This is one of the most established and synchronized WWE teams in the field.
- DarkState: This exact DarkState combination is documented in traditional two-on-two competition since May 5. James has approximately 91 documented matches and Griffin 76. Griffin has already held NXT Tag Team gold as part of DarkState. James and Griffin also competed in June’s four-way No. 1 contender match and defeated Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux on September 15. Their size is obvious. What the Dusty can establish is whether this specific combination can become more than another interchangeable DarkState pairing.
- Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno: Their first documented match together came April 25, giving them almost five months as a team. Dar has approximately 613 documented matches and is a four-time Heritage Cup Champion. Moreno has roughly 259 matches of his own. Together they have already wrestled Fraxiom, the Creed Brothers, Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux and The Vanity Project, including NXT Tag Team Championship challenges. Calling them filler would ignore both their experience and the level of competition WWE has already put in front of them.
- Los Americanos: The current Los Americanos combination is documented together by September 2025, although the careers behind the presentation extend considerably further back. In 2026, they won NXT’s tag-team No. 1 contender tournament, challenged The Vanity Project at Stand & Deliver, earned an AAA World Tag Team Championship opportunity and defeated Fraxiom, the LWO and Tokyo Bad Boys in the same four-way elimination match at TripleMania. Whatever anyone thinks about the presentation, WWE has already given them one of the strongest recent win résumés in this bracket.
- NXT Tag Team Champions The Vanity Project: Baylor and Smokes have been a team since 2023, and their team listing contains approximately 131 documented appearances. Baylor has roughly 285 career matches and Smokes 370. They won tag-team championships together before WWE and are now two-time NXT Tag Team Champions. Their first-round bye makes complete sense. The bigger question is whether the tournament finally allows the champions to prove how good they are without another important finish revolving around outside involvement.
- The Creed Brothers: The only previous Dusty winners in the 2026 field. They have been together since 2021, with roughly 140 documented team entries, won the 2022 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and later held the NXT Tag Team Championship for 91 days. Julius has approximately 164 professional matches and Brutus 156. Before WWE, Julius finished his Duke wrestling career 107-38 as a two-time NCAA Division I All-American, while Brutus went 108-13 at Otterbein and became an NCAA Division III All-American. They are attempting to become the first team to win the men’s Dusty twice.
- AAA World Tag Team Champions The Wagner Brothers (El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & Galeno): The brothers are documented teaming together since at least February 2024 and arrive as the reigning AAA World Tag Team Champions after defeating The War Raiders at TripleMania 34. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. has more than 750 documented matches and has held both the GHC Heavyweight and GHC National Championships. Galeno has approximately 484 documented matches and is also a former GHC National Champion. Together they have held The Crash and TWC Tag Team Championships in addition to their current AAA reign. Their first-round bye recognizes exactly what WWE should continue recognizing once they wrestle: these are accomplished champions, not anonymous outside talent brought in to fill the bracket.
- Tokyo Bad Boys (Kento & Takuma): One of the most experienced actual partnerships in the tournament. Kento and Takuma are documented together from November 29, 2022, and their team listing currently contains 126 entries. Together they have held the DTU Nexo and G-INFINITY Championships. Kento is also a two-time former Open the Brave Gate Champion and has held Dragon Gate’s Open the Twin Gate and Open the Triangle Gate titles. A large part of Takuma’s résumé has been built beside Kento, which only reinforces how established they are as a team. Casual NXT viewers may not know them. That is not the same thing as them being inexperienced.
- Sean Legacy & Dorian Van Dux: Their partnership began taking shape in May, with their first standard two-on-two match documented on June 23. Their team listing contains approximately 15 appearances. Legacy has roughly 290 documented career matches while Van Dux has more than 400. They won the June 30 four-way No. 1 contender match and challenged The Vanity Project for the NXT Tag Team Championship in July. They consistently look competitive against established teams. The next step is turning those performances into victories that actually change their position.
- Harley Riggins & Jax Presley: A developmental pairing documented together since August 8, 2025, giving them more than a year as partners. Their team listing contains approximately 20 appearances. Riggins has 53 documented professional matches, while Presley remains early in his own wrestling career. Their résumé is much thinner than those of Fraxiom, the Creeds, Hank & Tank or Tokyo Bad Boys. That is not a reason to hide them. It is exactly what makes a potential upset meaningful.
- Shido Ash & Viktor Zanov: Their first documented match as a team came April 14, giving them roughly five months together. Ash has only 24 documented professional wrestling matches, while Zanov did not begin professional wrestling until late 2025. Their athletic résumés are another matter entirely. Ash represented Canada in Olympic judo, finished fifth at the Tokyo Olympics and won silver at the 2024 World Championships. Zanov represented Austria at the 2024 Paris Olympics and has won at the IJF Grand Slam level. Together they have already picked up wins on Evolve. WWE should lean into what makes them different instead of asking two developing wrestlers to imitate teams with years of traditional tag chemistry.
- Hank & Tank: Do not let the personalities hide the résumé. Hank & Tank have been a team since 2023, and their team listing contains approximately 165 documented appearances. Hank has roughly 205 documented matches and Tank 193. Together they have held the NXT Tag Team Championship for 127 days, the GHC Tag Team Championship in Pro Wrestling NOAH and the Reality of Wrestling Tag Team Championship twice. They have more legitimate tag-team accomplishment than their presentation sometimes suggests.
The Field Is Deeper Than It Looks
The biggest strength of the 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is that these 14 teams are not variations of the same idea.
Fraxiom, the Creed Brothers, Vanity Project, Tokyo Bad Boys and Hank & Tank have substantial shared histories.
The Wagner Brothers are current AAA champions and actual brothers.
Birth Right, Dar and Moreno, DarkState, and Legacy and Van Dux are newer combinations with meaningful matches already behind them.
Riggins and Presley are developmental prospects.
Ash and Zanov are elite combat-sport athletes still learning professional wrestling.
Mini Vikingo and Hall are the true thrown-together team.
Those differences should matter once the bell rings.
If a team with more than 100 documented appearances together operates exactly like two wrestlers teaming for the first time, the history becomes meaningless. If international champions are presented exactly like developmental prospects, bringing them into the tournament accomplished nothing.
The Dusty should reward chemistry, experience and adaptation instead of flattening every team into the same television match.
The Established Teams Need to Feel Established
The Creed Brothers have already won this tournament.
Fraxiom are two-time NXT Tag Team Champions.
Hank & Tank have won championships in WWE, Japan and Reality of Wrestling.
The Vanity Project are the current NXT champions.
The Wagner Brothers are the current AAA champions.
Tokyo Bad Boys have been partners for almost four years.
Those facts should affect how these matches are wrestled and booked.
If Harley Riggins and Jax Presley eliminate the Creeds, it should feel like an upset.
If Mini Vikingo and Chaz Hall beat Fraxiom, the story should be that two extraordinary individual athletes somehow overcame a far more experienced team.
If somebody eliminates the Wagner Brothers, beating the AAA champions should immediately matter.
That is how a tournament creates momentum instead of merely filling television time.
The Vanity Project Have Something to Prove
Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes are not inexperienced champions.
They have been partners for years, have more than 100 documented team appearances, won championships before WWE and are already in their second NXT Tag Team Championship reign.
That is exactly why the recurring reliance on outside involvement deserves scrutiny.
Cheating fits their characters. Constantly needing shortcuts can eventually work against the champions WWE is trying to establish.
The Dusty gives Baylor and Smokes an opportunity to show that underneath the arrogance and interference is an excellent tag team capable of winning when the tournament leaves nowhere to hide.
They already received the first-round bye.
When they enter, they should wrestle like a team worthy of it.
The Creeds, Fraxiom and Hank & Tank Set the Standard
The Creed Brothers have the tournament history.
Fraxiom have the synchronization and championship history.
Hank & Tank have won championships across multiple promotions.
Those teams give WWE obvious measuring sticks.
An emerging team does not necessarily need to win the entire 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic to leave the tournament more important than it entered. Beating one established team—or even forcing one to survive a genuinely difficult match—can change how the audience sees them.
That is what tournament wrestling should accomplish.
Every elimination should tell us something.
WWE Cannot Waste the Variety
This field can produce completely different matches.
Let Fraxiom wrestle at Fraxiom’s pace.
Let the Creeds throw people around.
Let the Wagner Brothers carry themselves like international heavyweight champions.
Let Tokyo Bad Boys wrestle like partners who have spent years together.
Let Ash and Zanov use judo.
Let Mini Vikingo be the ridiculous 18-year-old athlete he already is.
The worst possible approach would be turning 14 genuinely different teams into the same match structure until a final eventually appears.
WWE already did the difficult part.
The talent is here.
The Biggest Question Is Still the Prize
The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has traditionally mattered because winning it changes somebody’s direction.
The BroserWeights won and became NXT Tag Team Champions.
MSK won and became champions.
The Creed Brothers won in 2022 and later captured the NXT Tag Team Championship.
Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin won the 2024 tournament and became champions nine days later.
That history gives the trophy value.
What WWE has not clearly announced for 2026 is an automatic NXT Tag Team Championship opportunity or another tangible reward beyond winning the tournament itself.
That becomes especially interesting because the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions are competing.
What happens if The Vanity Project win?
Does another team winning earn a championship opportunity?
What happens if the AAA champions win?
Those are not meaningless details. They define the stakes.
The 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has enough depth, international representation, history and stylistic variety to justify a 14-team field.
The roster is not the problem.
Now WWE has to prove these 14 teams were selected because there are 14 stories worth telling—not simply because somebody wanted a bigger bracket.
