WWE Monday Night Raw returns tonight from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, with the road to Money in the Bank moving forward and several stories from Mexico City demanding an actual follow-up. LA Knight will speak after dropping World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns with the BFT following last week’s show, Penta will address his hard-fought loss to Reigns, Bayley finally faces Lyra Valkyria, and two more Money in the Bank qualifiers will determine the fourth entrant in each ladder match. Mexico City gave Raw one of its strongest atmospheres of the year. Tonight has the less glamorous but equally important job of proving WWE knows what to do with the momentum it created.
Here is everything advertised for tonight’s show
- LA Knight will speak ahead of his World Heavyweight Championship match against Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank.
- Penta will speak following his World Heavyweight Championship loss to Roman Reigns.
- Bayley vs. Lyra Valkyria.
- Dragon Lee vs. Solo Sikoa vs. Dominik Mysterio (Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match)
- IYO SKY vs. Roxanne Perez vs. AAA Reina de Reinas Champion La Catalina (Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match)
Last week’s Raw was built around WWE’s first Raw in Mexico City in 15 years and Roman Reigns defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta.
WWE did not simply hand Penta a title match because of the location. He earned it by defeating Rey Fenix in the World Heavyweight Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament Final on August 31 and then walked into Mexico City for the biggest match of his WWE run.
For stretches of the main event, WWE made the upset feel possible.
Penta damaged Reigns’ right arm with the Sacrifice and later hit a Springboard Mexican Destroyer for one of the closest falls of the match. Reigns eventually caught Penta’s final springboard attempt with a Superman Punch and followed with the Spear to retain.
Penta lost, but losing to Roman Reigns was never the real concern.
What WWE does with him afterward is.
That is why Adam Pearce specifically announcing that Penta will speak tonight matters. WWE just spent weeks putting him through a contender’s tournament and then gave him a legitimate World Heavyweight Championship main event. If he immediately drops back into interchangeable midcard matches, the entire climb starts looking temporary.
Mexico City should have changed something for Penta. Tonight needs to show what that is.
Reigns also left Mexico City with another problem.
After Raw went off the air, LA Knight confronted the World Heavyweight Champion and dropped him with the BFT. The following day, Adam Pearce officially made Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight for the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank on October 10.
The angle worked, but putting the decisive escalation of the next World Heavyweight Championship program after the television broadcast ended remains an odd decision. Tonight is where WWE needs to properly bring that story onto Raw.
Knight’s pursuit of Reigns did not begin in Mexico City. He confronted Roman on the Raw after SummerSlam and demanded a World Heavyweight Championship opportunity. Reigns rejected him, arguing that Knight had not earned one.
Their issues only became more complicated as Knight became involved with Solo Sikoa and the larger Bloodline situation. Reigns eventually caught Knight with a Superman Punch while Knight was investigating an attack on Solo.
Now Knight finally has the championship match he wanted.
His promo tonight needs to be about more than repeating that he intends to beat Roman. Reigns had just survived a grueling title defense when Knight attacked him. That gives Roman an obvious response whenever they meet face-to-face again and gives Knight something meaningful to answer.
Bayley and Lyra Valkyria finally returning to the ring against each other may be the most personal match advertised tonight.
Lyra defeated Bayley at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18 by putting her to sleep with a modified Bulldog submission. Winning was not enough. Lyra attacked Bayley after the match, slamming her into the steel post, reapplying the submission and driving her onto the steel steps.
Bayley disappeared from WWE television until September 7.
Her return was specifically designed to hurt Lyra.
During Lyra’s Money in the Bank qualifier against Sol Ruca and Maxxine Dupri, Lyra hit Nightwing and appeared to have the match won. Bayley pulled the referee out of the ring before the three-count, allowing Sol to recover, hit the Sol Snatcher and qualify.
Last week, Bayley followed that interference with a message aimed directly at Lyra, making it clear that beating her in July was not enough to settle anything.
Tonight finally takes the feud out of video messages and interference and puts Bayley and Lyra back into the ring together.
The wider reaction coming out of Mexico City also matters. Penta’s performance against Reigns and the crowd’s investment in him became one of the biggest talking points surrounding the episode, while Chad Gable and Dragon Lee earned similar praise for their Intercontinental Championship match. That is the standard tonight is following.
Dragon Lee gets an immediate opportunity to turn that performance into something tangible.
He pushed Gable through a competitive championship match before eventually submitting to the ankle lock. Gable embraced him afterward, but a strong performance only carries someone so far if nothing follows it.
Tonight, Lee faces Solo Sikoa and Dominik Mysterio for a place in Money in the Bank.
Solo remains connected to the larger issues surrounding Roman Reigns and The Bloodline, while Dominik remains firmly embedded in Judgment Day’s ongoing chaos. Lee is coming directly out of one of his strongest Raw performances.
One of them will join Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans and United States Champion Trick Williams in the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
The women’s qualifier offers a completely different combination.
IYO SKY, Roxanne Perez and AAA Reina de Reinas Champion La Catalina battle for the fourth place in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
IYO brings established main-event credibility and previous Money in the Bank experience. Roxanne remains deeply involved with Judgment Day and continues hovering around major opportunities on Raw. La Catalina enters tonight as AAA Reina de Reinas Champion after ending Flammer’s historic championship reign at TripleManía 34.
The winner joins Sol Ruca, Lola Vice and Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne.
Je’Von Evans and Lola Vice earned their places last Monday. Evans defeated Austin Theory and Big Cass, while Vice defeated Raquel Rodriguez and Kelani Jordan in her Raw in-ring debut.
SmackDown added two more qualifiers Friday night. Trick Williams defeated Randy Orton and Rey Fenix, while Jacy Jayne defeated Jade Cargill and Alexa Bliss.
The fields are now halfway complete.
That makes tonight’s qualifiers more important than simply filling television time. Every result now moves WWE one step closer to establishing exactly who will enter New Orleans with a chance to change the direction of an entire championship picture.

Final Thoughts
Tonight’s WWE Monday Night Raw does not need to recreate Mexico City’s atmosphere.
It needs to make Mexico City matter.
Penta needs a direction after proving he belongs in a World Heavyweight Championship main event. LA Knight needs to turn one post-show BFT into a convincing title program with Roman Reigns. Bayley and Lyra Valkyria finally need to move their increasingly personal rivalry forward inside the ring. Two more wrestlers need to emerge from qualifiers where the spots should actually feel valuable.
Last week showed what Raw can look like when the crowd, wrestling and stakes all hit at the same time.
Tonight will show whether WWE can turn that momentum into something that lasts.
