Following up on a championship-heavy night, WWE NXT returns tonight with high-stakes action and rising anticipation as the black-and-gold brand barrels down the road to next month’s Great American Bash on July 12 and the all-women’s spectacle WWE Evolution on July 13.
Last week’s edition of NXT featured three title matches, each with ripple effects still being felt. North American Champion Ethan Page fended off WWE ID and EVOLVE standout Sean Legacy in a hard-fought bout—only to be ambushed afterward by the man he dethroned, the still-not-medically-cleared Ricky Saints, who made it clear his mission to reclaim the gold is far from over. Meanwhile, NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne retained her title in an impromptu defense against impressive debutant Lainey Reid. The match may have been sudden, but the aftermath was monumental, as NXT General Manager Ava declared that Jayne will put her title on the line at Evolution in Atlanta. Her challenger? That will be decided over the next two weeks.
Tonight, the women’s division takes center stage with four Evolution Eliminator Qualifying Matches. The winners will advance to next week’s Fatal 4-Way to determine the #1 contender for Jayne’s NXT Women’s Championship. With the biggest spotlight in women’s wrestling just weeks away, the competition promises to be fierce and deeply personal.
In addition, tonight marks the official arrival of WWE’s newest signee Blake Monroe — formerly known as Mariah May — who will sign her NXT contract live on television. Monroe’s presence alone is already shifting the balance of the NXT women’s locker room, and all eyes will be on what her next move is as Evolution draws near.
And in six-man tag team action, TNA’s top champion NXT Superstar Trick Williams is set to ride in style with First Class — TNA’s flashy and fast-rising tandem of AJ Francis and KC Navarro. Together, the trio, now collectively known as First Class Trick, will take on the powerhouse squad of Josh Briggs, Yoshiki Inamura, and Elijah. With Trick’s recent successful TNA World Title defenses — including on NXT against Mike Santana and at Against All Odds against Elijah — the stakes are high, and alliances are solidifying ahead of a gold-filled summer. Last week on the First Class Penthouse, Francis and Navarro boldly declared it would be a “First Class Summer,” with aspirations of becoming either TNA or NXT Tag Team Champions.
With Evolution qualifiers, contract signings, and cross-promotional chaos in the air, tonight’s NXT promises to be a can’t-miss installment on the road to two of the summer’s biggest events.
Here is everything advertised for tonight’s show:
Lash Legend vs Kelani Jordan (Evolution Eliminator)
Zaria vs Izzi Dame (Evolution Eliminator)
Thea Hail vs Jadia Parker (Evolution Eliminator)
Lola Vice vs Jordynne Grace (Evolution Eliminator)
