Tonight’s WWE NXT arrives at an important point on the road to NXT Heatwave with five advertised matches, three championship defenses and several stories that need real movement.
Kendal Grey will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Lola Vice in an NXT Underground match. Myles Borne and Tavion Heights will challenge Swipe Right for the NXT Tag Team Championship, while WWE Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair defends against NXT Women’s North American Champion ZARIA.
E.K. Prosper will also face Keanu Carver, and Jaida Parker will team with Thea Hail against Karmen Petrovic and Nikkita Lyons.
The card is strong enough on paper. The question is whether NXT will allow the results to matter or fall back on interference, distractions and unfinished angles that leave everyone in the same position.
Last week created several possible Heatwave directions. Tonight needs to turn them into something concrete.

Kendal Grey Battles Lola Vice in NXT Underground
Kendal Grey defending against Lola Vice is the most important match on tonight’s card.
Grey defeated Vice to win the NXT Women’s Championship at the Great American Bash, but Vice immediately questioned whether Grey could beat her in a fight.
Tonight removes that excuse.
NXT Underground does not allow pinfalls. The match can only end through submission, knockout or referee stoppage, and those rules clearly favor Vice.
Grey’s amateur-wrestling background gives her credibility, but this is still Vice’s environment. Grey will not have rope breaks or a quick pinfall available to escape with the championship.
She has to beat Vice decisively.
A successful defense would give Grey’s reign the credibility it still needs. Winning the title established her potential, but defeating Vice twice under completely different conditions would establish her as a legitimate champion.
Vice also has nowhere left to hide. She demanded this stipulation. If she loses again, NXT should move her out of the championship picture instead of booking another rematch.
This match should create a clear women’s title direction for Heatwave.
Swipe Right Defends Against Myles Borne and Tavion Heights
Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes will defend the NXT Tag Team Championship against Myles Borne and Tavion Heights.
The reunited No Quarter Catch Crew enters with enough history to be dangerous, but the partnership is not equal.
Borne is already North American Champion. Heights is still chasing his first championship and needs this reunion more than Borne does.
That imbalance gives the match a stronger story than simply bringing an old team back together.
Borne retained against Kam Hendrix last week and fulfilled the requirement placed in front of him before receiving this opportunity. Heights also helped prevent Mason Rook from directly affecting the finish.
Afterward, Vanity Project attacked before Borne and Heights fought them off.
Swipe Right’s numbers advantage will remain a concern tonight, but NXT cannot keep using faction interference as a substitute for decisive finishes.
The champions need a defense that strengthens them. Borne and Heights need either a victory that validates their reunion or a loss that exposes the tension beneath it.
Making Borne a double champion would look important, but it only works if NXT has enough story to support both championships.
Wren Sinclair Defends Against ZARIA
Wren Sinclair will defend the WWE Women’s Speed Championship against Women’s North American Champion ZARIA.
ZARIA can become a double champion by winning within the five-minute time limit. Sinclair will earn a future opportunity at ZARIA’s championship if she retains.
That gives both women something meaningful to gain.
ZARIA’s power should make her dangerous in a short match, but the time limit can also work against her if Sinclair avoids her biggest offense.
Sinclair does not need to overpower ZARIA. She needs to survive, control the pace and force ZARIA to become impatient.
The Speed Championship has struggled to feel connected to the larger women’s division. Tonight is an opportunity to change that.
Two championships being involved does not automatically make the match important. The result and the follow-up will determine whether it matters.
E.K. Prosper Faces Keanu Carver
E.K. Prosper will face Keanu Carver after returning to stop Carver from attacking Hank Walker and Tank Ledger.
Carver was responsible for putting Prosper out of action, giving this match a simple and effective story.
Prosper wants revenge. Carver wants to defeat the wrestler who keeps damaging his presentation as an unstoppable threat.
That presentation is already becoming difficult to maintain.
Carver can destroy people after matches, but repeated losses still count. He needs a meaningful victory more than another post-match attack.
Prosper also cannot remain trapped in this rivalry forever. If he wins again, NXT needs to move him toward something larger.
Tonight should settle the issue instead of repeating the same result without changing either man’s direction.
Jaida Parker and Thea Hail Form an Unlikely Team
Jaida Parker and Thea Hail will face Karmen Petrovic and Nikkita Lyons.
Parker and Hail share common enemies, but they are not a natural partnership.
Parker is aggressive and direct. Hail is emotional, energetic and unpredictable. That contrast can work as long as NXT does not force them into an immediate friendship.
They only need to cooperate long enough to deal with Petrovic and Lyons.
The bigger question is whether Petrovic and Lyons gain anything from standing beside Nattie.
Both women need more than being used as backup. This alliance should make them more dangerous, not turn them into background characters.
Tonight should establish which team has actual substance and which one exists only because the story needed four women in the same match.
Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana Target Tony D’Angelo
Last week, Grayson Waller returned to NXT and immediately entered the championship conversation.
The promo worked because his frustration felt real.
Waller has competed at WrestleMania and held championship gold, but his main-roster momentum disappeared. Returning to NXT is an opportunity to rebuild, even if his character refuses to admit that he needs it.
Later in the show, Cruz Montana officially introduced himself and confronted NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo.
Waller quickly joined the confrontation, and Montana accidentally hit D’Angelo during the closing chaos.
A Triple Threat match at Heatwave is the obvious direction.
That can work, but D’Angelo cannot become the least interesting person in his own championship story.
Waller returned with anger and something to prove. Montana arrived with immediate credibility. D’Angelo now needs to remind everyone why he remains the centerpiece rather than the man holding the championship between two fresher challengers.
Tonight should make that direction clearer.
What Else Should Develop on the Road to NXT Heatwave?
NXT has enough active stories. The problem is that too many of them continue circling without reaching a decision.
OTM’s issues with Los Perros del Mal need consequences. Lucien Price cannot simply ignore that Bronco Nima became distracted and left him isolated last week.
Mason Rook and Kam Hendrix also need more than repeated brawls and interference. Shiloh Hill should move on from Tristan Angels after beating him again.
BirthRight earned a victory over OTM, but it came because OTM fell apart. The group still needs a clean, important win before being treated like a serious championship threat.
The road to Heatwave needs matches, not just possibilities.
Final Thoughts
Tonight’s WWE NXT has enough championship stakes to deliver meaningful progress.
Kendal Grey against Lola Vice should be the centerpiece because the loser should be forced into a new direction.
Swipe Right against Myles Borne and Tavion Heights can establish whether the No Quarter Catch Crew reunion has real purpose. Wren Sinclair against ZARIA can finally connect the Speed Championship to a larger story.
Prosper against Carver and the women’s tag-team match also have clear reasons for happening, but neither can afford to repeat what the audience already knows.
The same applies to the rest of the show.
NXT does not need another week of distractions, interference and unfinished confrontations. It needs winners who move forward, losers who adjust and championship programs that become clearer before Heatwave.
Last week created possibilities.
Tonight needs to create direction.
