WWE NXT returns tonight with a show that has to do more than simply put matches on the board. Last week’s episode was built around new faces making statements, champions being dragged deeper into trouble, and a tag team main event that ended with DarkState kicking Saquon Shugars out of the group in one of the more meaningful faction turns NXT has done in weeks. Kam Hendrix and Mason Rook opened the night by defeating NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo and NXT North American Champion Myles Borne, but the win immediately turned into a battle over credit when Hendrix stole the pin and Rook later dropped him to make his own statement. Kelani Jordan stepped into the women’s title picture by calling out the fact that she keeps getting overlooked, only for Lola Vice, Izzi Dame, Kendal Grey and Wren Sinclair to turn the segment into chaos before Wren’s crutch attack sparked a brawl. Tristan Angels made his in-ring debut by defeating Romeo Moreno while Shiloh Hill’s “Mr. NXT” campaign continued in the crowd, Tatum Paxley retained the NXT Women’s North American Championship against Lizzy Rain in a hard-fought title match before Zaria wiped both women out, Keanu Carver kept building momentum by beating Tate Wilder, and The Vanity Project retained the NXT Tag Team Championships against DarkState before Dion Lennox, Osiris Griffin and Cutler James turned on Shugars and powerbombed him through the announce table. That is a lot of moving pieces, but tonight’s job is simple: NXT has to make the follow-up feel important.
Here is everything advertised for tonight’s show
- Lola Vice (c) vs. Izzi Dame (NXT Women’s Championship)
- Sean Legacy vs. Dorian Van Dux (WWE Men’s Speed Tournament Match)
- Wren Sinclair vs. Kelani Jordan
- Shiloh Hill vs. Charlie Dempsey
- Jaida Parker vs. Layla Diggs
- OTM vs. The Culling
Lola Vice defending the NXT Women’s Championship against Izzi Dame is the clear centerpiece of tonight’s show because it gives the episode a championship hook while also testing where Lola’s reign is really going. Lola has the presence, the confidence and the credibility to be a strong champion, but a title reign needs more than the belt and a line of challengers. It needs a defining story. Right now, Lola has Izzi Dame in front of her, Kelani Jordan demanding respect, Kendal Grey still hovering around the scene and Wren Sinclair causing problems whenever she sees an opening. That gives the division depth, but it also creates the risk of the title picture feeling crowded instead of focused.
Izzi is the right kind of challenger for Lola because she brings a different physical threat. Lola’s game is speed, striking, timing and pressure. Izzi’s game is size, power and making the match uncomfortable. This should not be a cute title defense. It should feel like Lola having to fight uphill against someone who can slow her down, cut off the ring and force her to wrestle at a pace she does not want. Izzi also has The Culling connected to her, which makes the match even more interesting because Shawn Spears and Niko Vance have their own business tonight against OTM. If The Culling is distracted, Izzi may have to prove she can win the biggest match of her NXT career on her own. If The Culling gets involved, it only adds more questions about whether Lola can keep surviving with so many people circling her title.
Kelani Jordan vs. Wren Sinclair is more than just a follow-up match from last week’s brawl. Kelani’s promo last week mattered because it sounded like a woman who knows she has done enough to stop being pushed to the side. She has the athletic ability, she has the history, and she has already proven she can carry a championship spotlight in NXT. Her frustration makes sense. She should not have to keep watching other women walk into title opportunities while she keeps trying to remind everyone who she is. Wren attacking her with a crutch gave the match heat, but tonight has to be about Kelani wrestling with urgency and not just getting revenge.
The key with Kelani is presentation. If NXT wants the audience to believe she is still a major player, she cannot just be another name in the women’s division traffic jam. She needs to win, look sharp and come out of tonight feeling like the next real problem for Lola Vice or whoever leaves with the NXT Women’s Championship. Wren, on the other hand, has to prove there is more to her than being sneaky and disruptive. She has the Women’s Speed Champion label attached to her, but matches like this are where she has to turn that into something bigger on the main NXT show.
OTM vs. The Culling could quietly tell us a lot about where Shawn Spears’ group is headed. Spears booking himself and Niko Vance into this match while Izzi Dame has a championship match on the same night already created tension inside the group. That is the story. The Culling is supposed to be calculated, dangerous and always one step ahead, but lately it feels like they are trying to convince themselves of that more than proving it. If Izzi wins the title and Spears and Vance beat OTM, then The Culling can claim tonight as a takeover. If they lose both matches, then the group starts looking like a faction with a strong presentation but not enough results to back it up.
OTM also needs this. Bronco Nima and Lucien Price have always had the look and the attitude, but NXT’s tag division needs teams that feel like actual threats instead of teams being rotated around whatever story the champions are in. The Vanity Project has the titles. DarkState just fractured. Hank and Tank have been part of the larger division. OTM has to use a match like this to remind people they are not just background muscle. This should be physical, loud and direct. No overthinking it. Two teams trying to hit harder and leave with momentum.
The Men’s Speed Tournament starting with Sean Legacy vs. Dorian Van Dux gives tonight another lane. Speed matches work best when they feel urgent, and this one needs to feel like more than just a quick side quest. Sean Legacy fits the format because his offense has pace and explosiveness. Dorian Van Dux returning in this spot gives him a chance to make an immediate statement instead of just being a name in the bracket. With Lexis King waiting as the Men’s Speed Champion, this tournament needs matches that feel sharp and purposeful. If NXT treats it like filler, the audience will do the same. If the matches feel like a sprint with stakes, it can become a nice weekly hook.
Shiloh Hill vs. Charlie Dempsey is one of the more interesting matches on the card because the styles and personalities are completely different. Shiloh’s “Mr. NXT” campaign has been ridiculous, but it has also worked because he is fully committed to it. The issue is making sure he does not become only a comedy act. Dempsey is the perfect opponent for that because he is not there to play along. He is there to wrestle, grind, stretch people and make the match ugly. If Shiloh can survive that and still show personality, tonight can help him. If he gets swallowed up by the serious wrestler across from him, then the character starts looking bigger than the performer.
Jaida Parker vs. Layla Diggs should be simple and effective. Layla is stepping into the main NXT program against someone who can make a point fast. Jaida does not need a complicated story to work. She needs attitude, impact and an opponent she can punish. The best version of this match is Jaida reminding everyone that she can still be moved into something bigger at any time while Layla gets a chance to show she is more than someone connected to Natalya’s orbit. If Layla hangs in there, she gains something even in a loss. If Jaida runs through her, that works too, as long as NXT uses it to push Jaida forward.
The DarkState fallout is the one thing tonight cannot ignore. Last week’s main event was not just about The Vanity Project retaining the NXT Tag Team Championships. It was about DarkState finally making a choice. Dion Lennox and Saquon Shugars lost after their own issues cost them, but the post-match attack is what mattered. Osiris Griffin and Cutler James turned on Shugars, Lennox hesitated just long enough for the moment to feel real, and then he joined in. That hesitation is important because it gave the angle a little more weight than a basic faction beatdown. Shugars has been one of the more charismatic pieces of DarkState, and if NXT follows up correctly, he could come out of this stronger as a solo act. But if he disappears or the group just moves on like nothing happened, then the angle loses a lot of its punch.
That is the larger issue with tonight’s show. NXT has a lot of talent, a lot of stories and a lot of fresh faces, but the brand has to make sure the follow-up is strong enough to match the setup. Last week had Hendrix and Rook winning their debut match, Rook immediately separating himself, Kelani forcing her way into the women’s title conversation, Tatum Paxley surviving Lizzy Rain before Zaria destroyed both women, Tristan Angels winning his debut, Keanu Carver continuing to build, and DarkState imploding in the main event. Fans had plenty to react to, from Rook’s presence to Shugars getting kicked out to the women’s division feeling loaded but slightly overcrowded. The same goes for the way wrestling coverage framed the show: the in-ring work was strong, DarkState’s breakup was the biggest story, and NXT gave itself several threads to pull tonight. Now it has to actually pull them.
Tonight’s episode should not be about being busy. It should be about direction. Lola Vice needs a title defense that makes her reign feel bigger. Izzi Dame needs to look like a real threat whether she wins or loses. Kelani Jordan needs to come out of the Wren Sinclair match feeling like someone NXT is taking seriously. The Culling needs to either rise or crack further. OTM needs to show it belongs in the tag title conversation. The Speed Tournament needs to feel like a real chase toward Lexis King and not just a few short matches tossed onto the card. And DarkState needs to explain what comes next after turning on Shugars.
Final thoughts
Tonight’s WWE NXT has the pieces to be a strong episode, but the success of the show depends on follow-through. Last week gave NXT a lot to work with, especially with Lola Vice’s crowded title picture, Tatum Paxley’s next challenger emerging, Mason Rook making a statement, The Culling showing cracks and DarkState kicking Saquon Shugars out of the group. That is enough material for a focused show if NXT treats each story like it matters.
The card is good, but the stories around the card are what matter most. Lola Vice vs. Izzi Dame should set the tone. Kelani Jordan vs. Wren Sinclair should clarify who is next in line. OTM vs. The Culling should say something about both teams. The Speed Tournament should bring urgency. And DarkState’s fallout needs to be addressed with real weight. If NXT does that, tonight can feel like a meaningful step forward. If not, it will just be another episode where a lot happens, but only some of it sticks.

I’m the quiet one until the bell rings then I’ve got takes. I live for WWE NXT and TNA, I want every promotion to succeed, and I will absolutely roast the bad decisions on sight (because someone has to). Anime taught me to respect long-term storytelling; wrestling taught me that sometimes the plan is “we panicked” and called it “unpredictable.” The Miz got me into all of this, so yeah I appreciate confidence, commitment, and the art of talking like you’re already the main event. Now I bring that same energy to the page as the main writer for Late Night Crew Wrestling because if you’re not here to be must-see and tell the truth, why are you here?!
