WWE SmackDown Preview – May 16, 2025: Backlash Fallout, MITB Qualifiers, and a Women’s Championship Main Event Set the Stage for a Must-See SmackDown

WWE Friday Night SmackDown rolls into Greensboro, North Carolina tonight, just six days removed from a wild Backlash Premium Live Event that left plenty of questions—and rivalries—still simmering. As the dust settles, the blue brand now shifts its focus to the next marquee event on the calendar: Money in the Bank, scheduled for Sunday, June 7th at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California.

The journey to one of WWE’s most chaotic and career-altering matches begins tonight, as two Triple Threat Money in the Bank Qualifying Matches are set to take place. Superstars from the men’s and women’s divisions will battle for the right to enter the iconic ladder match, with a guaranteed championship opportunity hanging in the balance for the winners in Los Angeles. Expect high-stakes drama, fast-paced action, and potential breakout performances as the field for Money in the Bank begins to take shape.

In tonight’s main event, Nia Jax gets a second shot at the WWE Women’s Championship when she challenges the reigning champion in a highly anticipated rematch. Jax earned this opportunity by defeating Jade Cargill in a hard-fought No. 1 Contender’s Match last week. With gold in her sights and momentum on her side, will Jax capitalize—or will the champion prove once again why she sits atop the SmackDown women’s division?

Also rumored for tonight’s show are the fallout segments from Backlash, potential appearances from newly returning or debuting Superstars, and further developments in ongoing rivalries that have been heating up over recent weeks.

With Money in the Bank implications, championship stakes, and unpredictable energy in the air, tonight’s SmackDown promises to be a can’t-miss installment on the road to one of WWE’s most exciting events of the year.

Here is everything advertised for tonight’s show:

Chelsea Green vs Alexa Bliss vs Michin (Women’s MITB Qualifier)

Jimmy Uso vs Rey Fenix vs Solo Sioka (Men’s MITB Qualifier)

Tiffany Stratton vs Nia Jax (WWE Women’s Championship)

R-Truth sit down interview with Wade Barrett
