WWE Friday Night SmackDown October 9, 2026 Results and Recap: Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley Win Tag Gold, The Vision Wrecks the Main Event

Tonight’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown crowned Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, giving Tatum the payoff she had earned even after Charlotte Flair’s injury threatened her opportunity. Bliss stepped in, Fatal Influence lost its gold, and tomorrow’s Money in the Bank received one final reminder that World Tag Team Champion Bron Breakker’s opponents will have to contend with The Vision as well as him.

The Cajundome in Lafayette also heard Cody Rhodes explain exactly why Randy Orton’s attacks had become personal. CM Punk and Kevin Owens argued over a briefcase while Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn encouraged the obsession that has already protected his championship. Tonight’s best developments changed somebody’s position. Too much of the wrestling still depended on outside interference to get there.

Here are the full results

  • Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne (c), Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend defeated Roxanne Perez, Sol Ruca and Lola Vice
  • WWE Tag Team Champions MFT (c) defeated War Raiders
  • Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley defeated WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Fatal Influence (c) (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship)
  • United States Champion Trick Williams (c) defeated World Tag Team Champion Bron Breakker via Disqualification

Breakdowns & Reactions

United States Champion Trick Williams and World Tag Team Champion Bron Breakker Get Their Main Event

Nick Aldis and Adam Pearce’s brand argument brought Trick Williams and Bron Breakker into the same conversation. Trick, accompanied by Lil Yachty, wanted a fight. The general managers gave him one in tonight’s main event.

Two ladder opponents had a reason to test each other. The brand argument contributed less.

Grade: B−

What worked

  • Trick and Bron had an immediate reason to collide.

What didn’t work

  • The general managers’ brand argument added little.

CM Punk, Kevin Owens and Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn Take Their Argument Up the Ladders

Punk wanted to become the first three-time Money in the Bank winner. His rundown gave Je’Von Evans and Penta warm responses before Kevin Owens interrupted with a revealing priority: keeping Punk from winning would count as success even if Owens lost.

Punk challenged the excuse. They climbed separate ladders before Sami joined them on a shorter one, arguing that their obsession with each other would leave both without the contract.

Owens accidentally struck Punk with the championship on September 11, allowing Sami to win it; Punk deliberately disrupted Sami’s defense against Owens a week later. Sami’s warning about both men leaving empty-handed, emphasized on WWE’s X account, grew from that history. Four other entrants still received endorsements while the veterans controlled the story.

Grade: B+

What worked

  • The ladder positioning illustrated three different motives.

What didn’t work

  • Four contenders remained supporting characters in their own build.

Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne, Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend vs. Roxanne Perez, Sol Ruca and Lola Vice

Jayne’s headlock and shoulder tackle met Ruca’s X-Factor before Perez stole a tag and cover. Lola and Sol refused Roxanne’s escape route; Roxanne later abandoned Sol when she needed relief.

Lola’s kicks and hip attacks, Sol’s moonsault to the floor and Tiffany’s handspring Stunner supplied the action. Jayne’s chinlock slowed Sol; Lash stole another tag, and Roxanne countered Lash Extension with a guillotine. The transitions struggled to keep pace with the resentment.

Lash avoided Sol Snatcher, leaving Lola to take it, then pinned Sol with Lash Extension. Monday’s accidental backfist had cost Sol and Lola; tonight reversed the mistake. WWE celebrated the winning trio on X, but the losers’ deteriorating trust mattered more.

Grade: C+

What worked

  • The accidental finish continued Sol and Lola’s existing friction.

What didn’t work

  • Uneven transitions weakened an ambitious six-person layout.

Lash Legend Turns on Her Winning Partners

Lash attacked Jayne and planted Tiffany with Lash Extension after they had just won together.

Lash accepted their help, then removed them when they became competition. Neither had reason to trust her tomorrow.

Grade: B

What worked

  • Lash’s actions made her priorities unmistakable.

What didn’t work

  • The familiar stand-tall image offered little surprise.

Nikki Bella Targets WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green

Chelsea wanted Tiffany to win the briefcase so they could celebrate. Nikki interrupted with her own plan: deal with Paige, then take Chelsea’s WWE Women’s Championship.

The title threat gave Nikki a next ambition. The husband jokes added little.

Grade: B−

What worked

  • Nikki connected her Paige program to a clear next ambition.

What didn’t work

  • The personal insults crowded out the wrestling issue.

Charlotte Flair’s Championship Opportunity Comes Under Attack

The backstage interview gave way to Jade Cargill, Michin and B-Fab attacking Charlotte and throwing her into a road case. Charlotte was left clutching her arm.

Charlotte’s championship opportunity was suddenly in doubt.

Grade: C+

What worked

  • The attack produced an immediate consequence.

What didn’t work

  • The feud needs more than repeated numerical ambushes.

Charlotte Flair Asks Alexa Bliss to Take Her Place

Aldis proposed postponing the title match because Charlotte was not cleared. Charlotte had another answer: Alexa should take her place alongside Tatum.

Alexa agreed. Aldis barred everyone from ringside and ejected the attackers. Charlotte preserved Tatum’s opportunity by surrendering her own place.

Grade: B

What worked

  • Charlotte preserved Tatum’s opportunity through a clear decision.

What didn’t work

  • An instant substitution made the title challenge feel easily transferable.

WWE Tag Team Champions MFT vs. War Raiders

Erik absorbed the early control before Ivar’s rally brought a spinning side slam, a low crossbody and a wheel kick. Tama’s draping neckbreaker interrupted that comeback. Bakusai appeared, the Raiders landed Viking Experience, and Haku’s cane to Erik’s throat handed MFT the opening for Brother’s Keeper.

The crowd response improved around Ivar’s offense, but the match never developed the sustained collision these teams could deliver. Another assisted win advanced the rivalry more than it strengthened the champions.

Grade: C−

What worked

  • Ivar’s comeback supplied the match’s strongest stretch.

What didn’t work

  • Interference again did the decisive work for MFT.

Bakusai Answers the War Raiders

MFT backed away from Bakusai, leaving the War Raiders to attack the newcomers. Bakusai answered and stood tall.

Bakusai looked capable against the Raiders. The champions retreated while everybody else fought, leaving the division’s direction unclear.

Grade: C

What worked

  • Bakusai looked capable of handling a confrontation.

What didn’t work

  • Multiple teams brawling blurred the central championship issue.

Danhausen Gets the Gunther Match Finn Bálor Wanted

Finn Bálor asked for Gunther. Gunther had requested Danhausen instead, leaving Finn frustrated and Danhausen facing an opponent he had little reason to welcome.

The evil scanner supplied the comedy. The booking also put someone Finn might help directly in Gunther’s path.

Grade: B−

What worked

  • The booking connected Danhausen’s comedy to Finn’s feud.

What didn’t work

  • The scanner bit took time away from Bálor’s grievance.

John Cena Presents Jimmy Fallon With a WWE Championship Belt

The Jimmy Fallon clip showed Cena presenting the host with a custom WWE championship belt. It supplied crossover promotion without contributing to tomorrow’s matches.

Grade: C

What worked

  • Cena supplied recognizable crossover exposure.

What didn’t work

  • The insert did nothing for tomorrow’s matches.

Randy Orton Leaves Nick Aldis With a Warning

Earlier footage followed the recap of Orton costing Cody his qualifier. Randy blamed Cody for the trouble, questioned his willingness to deliver another punt and headed home.

Orton provoked the response he claimed Cody could not produce. Keeping them apart delayed it again.

Grade: B

What worked

  • Orton weaponized Cody’s hesitation against him.

What didn’t work

  • Keeping Randy and Cody apart delayed a confrontation the feud already needed.

Cody Rhodes Turns Miz’s Birthday Demand Into a Warning for Randy Orton

Miz wanted recognition for twenty years in WWE; Kit wanted the crowd to sing. The audience had more enthusiasm for Cody’s entrance, and Cody cleared Wilson before dropping Miz with Cross Rhodes.

Cody rejected Aldis’ proposed office discussion and described the cost of Orton’s WrestleMania attack: his daughter seeing his damaged face and crying. Her fear now fueled his anger.

The insults landed because the explanation preceded them. Tonight earned Cody’s anger. Another retreat into mercy when Randy finally stands before him would undo it.

Grade: A−

What worked

  • Cody gave his anger a specific, personal foundation.

What didn’t work

  • The feud still owed the audience a decisive physical response.

World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight Will Open Money in the Bank

Roman’s World Heavyweight Championship defense against Knight will open tomorrow, an announcement reinforced by two WWE X posts.

Monday supplied their confrontation. Tonight established when that championship dispute would get its answer.

Grade: B

What worked

  • The rundown delivered actual information.

What didn’t work

  • An announcement supplied the match’s only fresh material tonight.

Damian Priest Attacks Fraxiom; R-Truth Fights Back

Priest attacked Nathan Frazer and Axiom after they suggested he owed Truth an apology. Truth then blindsided Priest, with officials intervening to separate the fight.

WWE presented the response as revenge on X. Truth answered the betrayal; Fraxiom absorbed punishment for somebody else’s feud.

Grade: B

What worked

  • Truth answered the betrayal with action.

What didn’t work

  • Fraxiom existed primarily to absorb Priest’s aggression.

Gunther Uses Danhausen to Get to Finn Bálor

Gunther attacked Danhausen before the bell with boots, chops, powerbombs and a turnbuckle stretch. There was no completed match.

Bálor’s rescue brought strikes and a floor Sling Blade. Gunther escaped, returned while Finn checked on Danhausen, and used the barricade and apron before powerbombing him onto the largely intact announce desk.

Finn’s intervention in Gunther’s September 25 qualifier supplied the grievance. Tonight made the retaliation vicious, with WWE highlighting the rescue and ambush on X. Finn needs meaningful resistance when their match finally happens.

Grade: B+

What worked

  • Gunther exploited Finn’s decision to help someone else.

What didn’t work

  • Another brutal defeat risked making Finn’s resistance feel futile.

Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn Faces Questions From His Allies and World Tag Team Champion Bron Breakker

Candice questioned why Sami had failed to help Johnny last week. Johnny accepted the explanation, making her skepticism more useful.

Bron’s quiet warning then changed the concern. Sami could explain himself to his allies; Breakker was interested in the championship.

Grade: B

What worked

  • Candice introduced doubt without forcing an immediate split.

What didn’t work

  • Gargano still seemed too willing to accept Sami’s explanation.

Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley vs. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Fatal Influence — WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Tatum’s German suplex preceded Fatal Influence’s isolation work. Alexa’s hot tag brought knees and a DDT; Fallon stopped her finishing Lainey before Tatum saved a fall and re-entered.

Tatum missed her top-rope attack; the referee caught Lainey helping Fallon’s leverage-assisted cover. Alexa removed Lainey with Sister Abigail on the floor, and Tatum’s Cemetery Drive on Fallon won the championship.

Tatum’s September 4 pin over Lainey alongside Charlotte had earned this opportunity. Tonight paid it off, although the commercial interruption and abrupt conclusion limited the champions’ resistance.

Grade: B−

What worked

  • Tatum earned the decisive pin instead of becoming a passenger.

What didn’t work

  • The championship change outshone the match that delivered it.

New WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley Celebrate

Pyro and WWE’s championship congratulations gave Alexa and Tatum time to celebrate.

Charlotte chose Alexa as her replacement. Future tension has to account for that decision; tonight established no betrayal.

Grade: B

What worked

  • The celebration let Tatum’s accomplishment register.

What didn’t work

  • Fatal Influence’s lost championship needed more attention.

Next Week’s Sacramento Lineup Takes Shape

Cody and Randy’s face-to-face, Paige vs. Nikki Bella and Priest vs. Truth gave next week concrete direction.

Priest and Truth received a match. Cody’s confrontation remained another conversation.

Grade: B−

What worked

  • Priest and Truth’s fight produced a scheduled match.

What didn’t work

  • Cody and Orton’s resolution remained beyond another face-to-face.

United States Champion Trick Williams vs. World Tag Team Champion Bron Breakker

Trick’s dropkick gave way to Bron driving him into the announce desk and leaping off the apron into him. Back inside, Trick escaped a superplex and hit a flying clothesline; Bron’s German suplexes and grounded control slowed him again.

Trick’s kicks, flapjack and tornado kick built a comeback. Bron countered a Trick Shot into a gutbuster, but his next charge met the knee. World Tag Team Champion Austin Theory then attacked Trick, causing the disqualification.

The collisions suited both men. The finish denied them a conclusion precisely when their exchanges began to promise one.

Grade: C+

What worked

  • The countered spear and Trick Shot created credible momentum changes.

What didn’t work

  • Outside interference reduced the main event to setup.

The Vision Overwhelms United States Champion Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans and Penta

Logan Paul struck Lil Yachty. Je’Von Evans and Penta tried to help, but Bronson Reed joined the attack and The Vision controlled the ring. Breakker’s spear and Reed’s Tsunami flattened Trick; Evans was also left down as the group stood tall.

Crowd calls for Oba Femi exposed the unanswered challenge: Reed’s opponent never supplied a response tonight. WWE promoted the closing chaos on X, but the picture mostly repeated The Vision’s established numbers advantage. Tomorrow needs a reckoning.

Grade: C

What worked

  • The attack connected Breakker’s ladder pursuit to Reed’s grudge match.

What didn’t work

  • Another overwhelmed rescue repeated the faction’s usual ending.

WWE SmackDown Results and Money in the Bank Fallout

Tonight changed a championship without changing either ladder field. Punk and Owens still risk handing an opening to four opponents. Lash has given her winning teammates another reason to stop her, while Sol and Lola have both paid for their partnership’s mistakes.

The Vision’s closing attack also connected Breakker’s pursuit of the contract to Reed’s match with Oba. Those are different contests with the same unresolved problem: how much of the outcome will the group be allowed to dictate?

Best Match and Segment of the Night

Best Match: Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley vs. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Fatal Influence (c) — WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

The wrestling was modest, but Tatum’s decisive pin delivered tonight’s most satisfying payoff. She earned the opportunity with Charlotte and finished the job with Alexa.

Best Segment: Cody Rhodes confronts Nick Aldis

His daughter’s fear gave the anger substance. Cody explained what Orton had taken from him before delivering the insults.

What was announced for next week’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown

October 16, from the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento:

  • Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton come face-to-face
  • Paige vs. Nikki Bella
  • Damian Priest vs. R-Truth

Final Thoughts

Tonight’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown delivered its strongest payoff through Tatum. Charlotte preserved the opportunity by sending Alexa, and Tatum supplied the winning pin.

Cody’s account of his daughter’s fear gave his feud with Orton a stronger foundation. The problem now is delivering on that anger when Randy stands in front of him.

The wrestling was less convincing. MFT needed another assisted finish, and Trick’s match with Bron ended just as their exchanges promised a conclusion. The Vision then overwhelmed another rescue. Tomorrow needs to show what those attacks accomplish beyond leaving the same group standing.

Overall grade: B−.

What worked

  • The title change and October 16 bookings gave tonight concrete consequences.

What didn’t work

  • Three in-ring confrontations were decided or derailed by interference.
