WWE Monday Night RAW April 27th, 2026 Preview: Roman Reigns Responds To Jacob Fatu, Penta Battles Rusev On The Road To Backlash

WWE Monday Night RAW tonight has the responsibility of doing what last week’s RAW After Mania only partially accomplished: turning the post-WrestleMania reset into a real road to Backlash. We are two weeks away from WWE Backlash on May 9th, and tonight’s show already feels more focused than last week’s episode because the biggest stories now have clear pressure points. Roman Reigns has to answer Jacob Fatu’s challenge. Seth Rollins has to respond after Bron Breakker left him lying. Becky Lynch is back in the spotlight. Joe Hendry gets his first real RAW showcase. Penta and Rusev finally collide after last week’s attack. The card is not overloaded, but it has enough major pieces to make tonight feel important — as long as WWE actually pushes the stories forward instead of just circling the same talking points.

Here is everything advertised for tonight’s show

  • Seth Rollins kicks off RAW
  • Roman Reigns responds to Jacob Fatu’s Backlash challenge
  • Becky Lynch appears
  • Joe Hendry live concert
  • Penta vs. Rusev
  • Bayley & Lyra Valkyria vs. Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez w/ Liv Morgan

Last week’s RAW After Mania ended with the strongest angle of the night: Jacob Fatu stepping directly to Roman Reigns and making it clear he does not want to acknowledge him — he wants what he has. That is what makes tonight’s Roman segment the biggest thing on the show. Reigns is the new World Heavyweight Champion, but the first real threat to his reign is not some outsider looking for a title shot. It is family. It is blood. It is someone who sees the money, the fame, the private jets, the watches, the cars, the house, the security, and the power — and believes Roman has been eating too long while everyone else waited for scraps.

That is the most interesting version of this story. Not “Bloodline drama again” just for the sake of dragging out another family chapter, but Jacob Fatu as a desperate, violent, hungry man who is not chasing legacy — he is chasing survival, status, and everything Roman’s position represents. Tonight has to make that feel personal. Roman gave Fatu a week to think about it. Now the clock has run out. If WWE handles this right, Reigns vs. Fatu at Backlash could feel less like a filler title defense and more like the first real crack in Roman’s new championship era.

Seth Rollins opening the show is another major hook, especially after last week’s segment with Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, Logan Paul, Austin Theory, and The Street Profits turned into one of the most violent moments of the night. Rollins got jumped, Bron looked like an absolute animal, and The Vision still feels like a dangerous but slightly overbuilt machine. The honest praise is that WWE has something with Bron Breakker. He moves, hits, and carries himself like chaos in human form. The criticism is that he does not need too much noise around him. Heyman adds credibility. Rollins adds star power. But Bron’s violence is the selling point, and tonight should let that breathe.

Penta vs. Rusev might be the sleeper match of the night. Last week, Rusev’s attack immediately reintroduced him as a serious threat, while Penta became the perfect opponent because he brings flash, crowd connection, and a completely different rhythm. This is exactly the kind of midcard fight RAW needs more of: two distinct personalities, two different styles, and a clear reason to fight. Rusev should look dominant, but Penta cannot be treated like a stepping stone. He is too over and too unique to simply get folded for someone else’s return momentum.

The women’s tag match also matters more than it may look on paper. Bayley and Lyra Valkyria against Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez gives WWE a chance to keep several women moving at once while Liv Morgan stands ringside as champion. That is smart on paper. Liv needs challengers, Lyra needs consistent main-roster positioning, Roxanne needs meaningful reps, Bayley needs direction, and Raquel works as a believable heavy beside Liv. The issue is that WWE cannot let this become background noise. Last week, Sol Ruca felt like the future even in defeat. Tonight, someone in this match needs to leave with momentum, not just survive a setup segment.

Becky Lynch’s appearance is also worth watching closely. With the women’s division shifting after WrestleMania, Becky returning to RAW gives WWE a proven star who can instantly reshape the title picture, elevate a newer name, or ignite a bigger personal feud. The praise is obvious: Becky still feels like a major-event player whenever she is placed correctly. The criticism is just as obvious: WWE has to avoid using her return as a shortcut that pushes fresher stories to the side. The division has too many moving pieces right now for everything to orbit one name again.

Then there is Joe Hendry. His concert segment is exactly the kind of thing that could either hit big or feel like a novelty act if WWE overproduces it. Hendry works because fans want to participate. They want the song, the entrance, the wink, the confidence, and the absurdity. The key tonight is simple: let the crowd have fun, but give the segment a purpose. Hendry cannot just be a meme on RAW. He has to become a character with direction.

Tonight’s RAW is not about having the longest match card. It is about making Backlash feel real. Roman and Fatu need heat. Rollins and Bron need escalation. Penta and Rusev need violence. Liv’s division needs clarity. Becky needs purpose. Hendry needs a strong first impression. That is a lot for one episode, but it is also exactly what RAW should be doing two weeks out from a premium live event.

Final Thoughts

Tonight’s RAW has a better advertised foundation than last week’s RAW After Mania. It is tighter, more direct, and more clearly tied to Backlash. The biggest question is whether WWE will make the show feel urgent or simply use it as another bridge episode.

If Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu deliver, RAW has its main event story. If Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker escalate properly, RAW has its violent centerpiece. If Penta vs. Rusev hits, the midcard gets stronger. If the women’s division leaves with a clearer direction, the show will feel productive.

This does not need to be a chaotic RAW. It needs to be a meaningful one.
